NWBrickCon 2004 - Castle!
Anthony 29 IX 04

Thomas Rafert needs our help! He's looking to build the biggest Castle display yet at NWBrickCon 2004, be he can't do it alone.

If you're planning on attending the event, or want to go, contact Thomas right away! Pre-registration ends this Friday (October 1st) so be sure to register before then to get your badge and the rest of the goodies.

Anything medieval is welcome of course, but visit his post on Lugnet for more information and his email address.

Fantasy Castle
Bruce N. H. 29 IX 04

LEGOFREAK is one of the more active members of our community. In recent days he's brought us several great MOCs, including this Fantasy Castle. There are a lot of great details, including this drawbridge and this waterfall, and the castle opens in several places for access to the interior.

In his profiles, Freak lists his occupation as "dad", and he's certainly doing a great job. His son has a great evil Fantasy Fortress. There's a thread on this in our forums.

For more great work by Freak (and his son), check out his Brickshelf gallery. I'd stay away from that monkey, though; it looks like it might be rabid.
Star Parts
Anthony 29 IX 04

Our 12th Picture Captioning once again comes from C-C's own Nathan Wells. Of course when he sent it to me he wasn't an Admin yet, he was Civilian Wells.

This one might be tricky, but I know you have the talent to come up with some great captions. You're a Classic-Castler, by George! The honor and dignity of Nathan Wells is on the line, here! Make me proud!

New MOC Admin
The CC Team 27 IX 04

The Classic Castle admins have seen a need to split the work load of Anthony Sava, giving the MOC section to a new Admin. We are pleased to announce Bruce has graciously accepted the position.

Of course most of you are probably already aware of Bruce's ascension, but we feel he deserves an official announcement. So... There you go.

GIMP: Free Image Editing For All
by Kevin Blocksidge, 26 IX 2004

Have you ever wanted to crop out unwanted parts of pictures? Or perhaps resize a photo? Maybe you think that all the programs capable of doing these things are way too expensive. Well think again! In this article, you'll see how to use TheGimp, which can be downloaded for free!

Witch House
Bruce N. H. 26 IX 04

If you don't know Takeshi Itou, you just haven't been paying attention. Takeshi is one of the true talents, with his models on display on his website, Castle Element and in his Brickshelf gallery. In his most recent creation he brings us a witch's house set on an island.

Takeshi Itou says he starts out with a drawing to plan out a MOC, but then the actual building process only takes 3-4 days. He usually does not exhibit his models, but takes them apart again after photography. He is not a member of Classic-Castle or Lugnet, but does participate in Japanese LEGO clubs.

Ben E. 25 IX 04

Join the weekly Classic Castle set review discussion. Please post your opinions on the set play ability, piece selection, design, etc. Which sets stand up to our catapult of critique and which ones crumble in shame!

This week’s set is 4816 Knight’s Catapult.

Knight’s Catapult, released in 2000, was the only siege weapon for King Leo's Knight's Kingdom. This mobile catapult comes with one knight, an archer, stone shot, and various accessories.

Priest House
Bruce N. H. 23 IX 04

Greg Nation has been a castle LEGO fan since he was a kid, but is only recently getting back into building. He focuses on Castle and Adventurer themes, driven by his interest in history. In this creation he brings us a slice of medieval life with a priest's home. Some of the nice details include the technic pin construction that allows for access into a small interior space, and the smoke from the fire.

Greg has also built a small mill with a nice millstone design. Keep an eye on his MOCpages site and his Brickshelf gallery for future creations. He's been lurking around the Classic-Castle forums for a while, but has recently joined. Welcome aboard, Greg.

Idea Book 260: Part I
Yaron Dori and Ben E. 20 IX 04

Our article, which will be in two installments, focuses on the castle creations of 260 Idea Book which was released in 1990. Many of the 23 creations will be discussed. Each one has been built and photographed to the best of our ability. We recommend using pieces from sets available in 1987-1990 but pieces can also be found in sets from other years. Discuss the article here.

Micro Hogwarts
Bruce N. H. 16 IX 04

There are a lot of reasons for castle fans to know Don Bruce. In his Chateau de Hautefort and his Colditz Castle, he explores ways to create the same structures at various scales. He also has a more traditionally minifig-scaled castle layout that covers 12 baseplates and another large diorama incorporating some clone-brand elements.

Here, though, we focus on his Hogwarts creation. In a continuing work in progress, Don is recreating Hogwarts, as seen in the Harry Potter movies, at three different scales, ranging from a minifig-scaled fragment down to a tiny version of the whole complex. For the past couple of weeks this has been on display an the New Mexico State Fair in Albequerqe, NM. So if you're local, hurry on over and check it out before it goes away this weekend.

Don says he's always been a castle fan and intends to join C-C.com soon. So hopefully we'll be seeing much more from this builder in the near future.

One Year Ago...
The CC Team 14 IX 04

One year ago, on the fourteenth of September, 2003, we announced to the world the birth of a new website. We did our best to create something that we hoped would provide everything we could think of to help our hobby grow, and breathe a little life into the LEGO Castle scene. Little did we know then what a thriving community would grow out from it.

Today, we are a community of over 400 registered members with over 150,000 hits to the website. Our Set archive is nearly complete and our Gaming arena is going strong. Major websites like Bricklink and Lugnet link to us, and every day it seems another sleeper awakens into our forum.

Tomorrow? We, the admins, will always strive to improve Classic-Castle.com. New articles, new features, more contests and more interactivity are all planned and being worked on. We hope to attract more members, awaken more sleepers, and even start physical LEGO Castle organizations outside of the Internet.

Our goal is, was, and always will be, to make this place THE source for all your castle needs. It's been an amazing year, and we look forward to many, many more!

Leg Godt, castle style!
