LEGO Lord of the Rings
16 XI 14
Join the Classic Castle set review discussion. Please post your opinions on the set play ability, piece selection, design, etc. Which sets stand up to our catapult of critique and which ones crumble in shame!
This week is something different. Let's look at a line as a whole. Over the last several months, we've taken a look at all of the LEGO Lord of the Rings sets (I've included links to each individual set review thread here). The rumor is that we won't see any more Lord of the Rings sets (though has this ever been confirmed by LEGO?). So, at the end of the run, what is your overall impression? What were the high and low points? What other sets did they miss out on including? Give your thoughts on the line as a whole.

Remember, remember the Sith of November
6 XI 14
Yesterday was Guy Fawkes Day, when the English celebrate the disruption of the Gunpowder Plot. In 1605 Guy Fawkes and his co-conspirators placed explosives beneath the House of Lords, intending to destroy Parliament and assassinate King James I. Nick Sweetman celebrated with this theme mash-up, Remember, remember the Sith of November. Check this out along with all of Nick's MOCs on Flickr, and then discuss it in our forum.

CC Set Review: Lord of the rings promos, polybags and gear
5 XI 14
Join the Classic Castle set review discussion. Please post your opinions on the set play ability, piece selection, design, etc. Which sets stand up to our catapult of critique and which ones crumble in shame!
This week's review is a little different. Over the past few months we've walked through all of the Lord of the Rings sets. Let's finish this off with the promotions and polybags, as well as other items.
30210, Frodo with cooking corner, shows a hobbit in his main environment, surrounded by food. This polybag was given away as a promo item in various ways (with the purchase of other LEGO sets in one promotion, along with a newspaper in England), and was also for sale in certain stores.
30211, Uruk-Hai with ballista, would be a great army builder if you could get it in any numbers. Like the Frodo set this was mainly available as a promotional giveaway, but was for sale in some stores.
Elrond's figure was a giveaway for those who pre-ordered the LEGO Lord of the Rings video game.
In addition to these, LEGO also sold keychains of Gandalf, Gimli, Frodo, and an orc. There was a set of three magnets - Frodo, Sam and a Nazgul - and another stand-alone magnet of Frodo (sometimes paired with young Bilbo).
I suppose I should include in this list, just to be completist, a promo conducted in the LEGO stores where you could "build your own sword", but it was pretty much a stack of 2x2 round bricks.

Colossal Castle Contest XII
CC Team 1 XI 14
The CC Team is proud to announce our twelfth annual building contest: The Colossal Castle Contest XII.
It will begin on November 1st and end on December 31st, 2014.
This contest is a bit different than other contests.
We have a variety of categories each with one prize for the winner.
Some categories require small creations and others need larger ones.
Everyone, even with a limited supply of bricks, should be able to enter several categories.
We are looking for creativity, not who has the most LEGO.
Check out the prizes.
Seven Classic Castle sets including the popular Blacksmith Shop, Castle Guard, Maidens Cart, Catapult, Dragon Defender, Medieval Knights, and Dark Forest Fortress are prizes.
There are are also idea books, custom accessories, and new castle sets. It truly is colossal!
It truly is colossal!
Thank you to several anonymous donors, Rich Stehnach "Blackrock", soccerkid, and Royal Brick Customs for donating prizes for this contest.
The updated rules with fewer image restrictions can be found here. Enjoy!
