As to money, pitchforks as currency does not work, as peasants use them to work, and peasants are some of the poorer people (besides slaves) in Medieval life. I think gold coins is a good unit. Maybe lesser valued metal coins as change? I'd use copper coins. Gold was hard to come by in those days, ...
