Re: Lego piece naming
That is sort of interesting. I remember that before I found Bricklink, I'd call things all sorts of names. The 1x1 round bricks, we'd call ''bombs" and bricks were 'thick pieces' while plates/tiles were "thin pieces". Always used the grid system though, "2 by 4" "1 by 1...

Re: Transitioning: Five Years After the Color Change
With a very few exceptions (such as the medieval market) I no longer buy sets at all. I buy online mainly, just the pieces I need, and I still prefer the old colors. It's not that bad with the grey/bley, but for a long time I really didn't like the reddish-brown, and would just put them all together...

Re: Impressive Animation
I logged into the forums to post this awesome LEGO animated video I found today, and you have beat me to it! This is amazing, 1500 hours .... my favorite part is where he has what looks like a 3D cube rotating around, but using only a few 2D lines. Incredible.

Re: Evolution of a Trebuchet - Part 4 (Redux)
Nice mountain, very nice and convincing foliage. I don't yet see a Trebuchet though..... Soon soon ... you have to have iron ore to make the metal fastenings. :) And Mail Call is a great show. Medieval tech for the win. On a different note, part 5 is going to be a long time coming, because I'm now ...

Evolution of a Trebuchet - Part 4 (Redux)
First attempt at this ended up being an 8x8 vignette because of lack of of pieces. However, I wasn't satisfied, and I finally got a couple bricklink orders in yesterday. So, here is the re-done part 4. :) http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb80/Kelderic/MOCs/Castle/Evolution%20of%20a%20Trebuchet/4%2...

Re: Which LEGO Dragon do you like the most?
Man, I'm still in love with the classic. I've got my black and green for the different factions, although I've added the gold and black body of the chinese dragon, ( after putting a regular face on him) to my collection.

Re: Iron Ore Mining
Thank you all for the ideas. I don't have enough pieces to make a full mine that I'm happy with, but someday I'll be able to go back and redo it.

Re: Evolution of a Trebuchet - Part 4
Teherean, yep, trying to get all the steps, even though I won't get realistically All of them. SirJacob, I agree it could have been bigger, but I have very few dark grey slopes, and I decided that with the time contrainsts that I have (going back to college in 3 weeks, minus 6 days of vacation) that...

Evolution of a Trebuchet - Part 4
Now that we have the wooden beams, it's time to turn our attention to other parts a trebuchet needs. For example, the metal fasteners and hinges and other miscellaneous pieces and parts. The first step to making those, is mining the iron ore. To do this, you need a vein of iron ore, a mine shaft, so...

mrkovach - Thank you for your kind words. And yep, here are links: Parts 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 LegoLord - I think there might be. There's a shower on The Discovery Channel about logging. BrickMasta - Thank you. Teherean - Next step is up ... or will be when you read this, unless you are online right...

Iron Ore Mining
Was iron ore mined in underground tunnels/shafts, or was it just surface mining? In a couple books I read, they described some tunnel mining, but they were fiction, so I'm not sure if I can trust them. Thanks in advance for the help.

Evolution of a Trebuchet - Part 3
Alrighty, having a large log is useful, but it's not what is required for a trebuchet. First it must be processed, and the lumberjack camp is the perfect place for that. http://s210.photobucket.com/albums/bb80/Kelderic/MOCs/Castle/Evolution%20of%20a%20Trebuchet/3%20-%20Lumberjack%20Camp/th_Beginning...

Evolution of a Trebuchet - Part 2
Alrighty guys, here's part two. After the big tree's been felled, the next step is to get the raw material to where it can be processed. http://s210.photobucket.com/albums/bb80/Kelderic/MOCs/Castle/Evolution%20of%20a%20Trebuchet/2%20-%20Transport/th_100_2355.jpg Gallery The cart is based on this , w...

Re: Evolution of a Trebuchet
Kevin, SavaTheAggie has a really great tutorial here, showing how to make a nice looking tree top: Tree Technique Karrde, thank you. :) That was what took the most time actually. I used this picture to try and re-create. Heir, that's a good idea, I should've put in a text box, added some humor. Migh...

Very nice! The castle is quite well designed, and it's a very interesting snapshot, I find myself wondering who will win. My favorite part though, is the hillside. How did you get the green plates to all those angles? I love it.
