Ah, I thought you imported the psd directly. Yep that's the procedure. You have to watch out the quality of the picture (resolution, focused etc), then tweak the trace parameters (number of passes, trace by color, brightness etc). When you finally trace the bitmap you have to manually edit the nodes...
