Re: My first Castle MOC in 7 years! (Work in Progress)

After Christmas Interruptus, I was able to resume work on my Highland Tower kit. Minor changes include rebuilding the battlements, adding a corner tower (after I found light bley inverse corners at a Bricklink store in Norway) and a roof over the stairs. The big project was committing the model to L...

Re: My first Castle MOC in 7 years! (Work in Progress)

Great job on the furniture, Dan. Do you have any closer upper pix of them? I love the bagpipes and spinning wheel. You have a great eye for detail. The big gray walls are imposing and "boring" on purpose in such castles. They project power, permanence and say "look how tough we are.&...

Re: My first Castle MOC in 7 years! (Work in Progress)

UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE! I've done a lot of work on the interior models and changed the time period to purely medieval (rather than renaissance). Here goes... http://www.brickmania.com/images/001_Piper400.jpg http://www.brickmania.com/images/002_Playtime1400.jpg http://www.brickmania.com/images/003_P...

Re: My first Castle MOC in 7 years! (Work in Progress)

Thanks for all the great comments and I apologize for my own lack of response: This project was interrupted by a visit to BrickCon. I brought the model there but I was not able to add any significant details due to other commitments soaking up my time. I'm now working on putting it back together (it...

Re: My first Castle MOC in 7 years! (Work in Progress)

Looks great so far! What time period is it intended to be from? The keep is 14th-15th century. The hand gun makes it a little later than most "Classic" Castlers, but these buildings were meant to last for a long time! Oh yeah, updated pictures from today's session: http://www.brickmania.c...

I can't take credit for these - the designs were borrowed from Will of BrickArms.

Re: My first Castle MOC in 7 years! (Work in Progress)

Hollow walls would only save about 2-3% of the overall brick count and would severely weaken the structure. I like to make my castles "playable" for my kids, which means they basically have to be indestructible! Even though this castle is "made up," I'm a stickler for architectur...

Re: My first Castle MOC in 7 years! (Work in Progress)

Thanks everyone for looking and commenting! I'm actually almost finished with it already! While I'm waiting for more parts to arrive (in the mail) I'm busy rendering it in Ldraw for the instruction book. It's a lot slower going than working with actual bricks... http://www.brickmania.com/images/High...

My first Castle MOC in 7 years! (Work in Progress)

Seeing the new BrickArms' Claymore prototypes on Flickr inspired me to take on a Scottish keep as my first castle MOC and custom kit in 7 years. I'm about 75% finished and plan to display the finished model at BrickCon. Here are some WIP pictures so far: http://www.brickmania.com/images/Highland01.p...

Re: Copyright notice regarding Daniel Siskind / Brickmania kits

(hello, the beloved Medieval Marketplace is a direct descendant of my castle designs). What makes you say that? Got take a look a my old castle kits: http://www.brickmania.com/brickmania-kits/castle-kits Before I released them only a tiny handful people were making buildings on this scale and no on...

Re: Copyright notice regarding Daniel Siskind / Brickmania kits

You gave up your real job for Lego? I admire your dedication mate, but that doesn't seem like the wisest decision when you've got children to think about. Of course, no one should be selling your designs... Maybe you live in a different world than I do, but my background is the music business and t...

Re: Copyright notice regarding Daniel Siskind / Brickmania kits

I'm posting this same notice in al public forums I participate in. My web site was not the only place where my kits and instructions are available (f.e. my Panther tank instructions were downloaded more than 60,000 times from BIP before it went away). By posting this far and wide I am making certain...

Copyright notice regarding Daniel Siskind / Brickmania kits

In recent months I have run across several people selling my kits and/or instructions without my permission. While I appreciate that my models and name have become marketable items, I do not appreciate that other people are using them to make money without sending me royalties, let alone bothering t...
