Re: Conan the Barbarian, Valeria, and Deathstalker, Too!

I have yet to see Deathstalker II, but I have watched the first one and found it's 80s cheesiness very humorous! The figure is instantly recognizable! Thanks! If you enjoyed the first film, you'll love the second; it's very, very much in on the joke, to the point of having outtakes play at part of ...

Re: Conan the Barbarian and Valeria

Great work with these two! Thanks! Here's one more fig I thought would be fun: Deathstalker, Roger Corman's mercenary man-at-arms: http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2849/12083446015_167995d621_n.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7310/12083823904_b8a6ec3e81_n.jpg Conan the Barbarian takes its sword-and-...

Conan the Barbarian, Valeria, and Deathstalker, Too!

Recently, I re-watched Conan the Barbarian (and the lesser but still goofy fun Conan the Destroyer ) and felt inspired to revisit a Conan figure. Once I built him, it just didn't seem right to leave him without his fierce Valkyrie companion! http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5527/12050035203_ffe6f7cd3e_...

Re: Discussion thread: what is customizing to you?

Now I can tell you being involved in the Auto world via clubs, organizations, shows, etc... Fascinating! I've always used the auto analogy for LEGO customization knowing exceptionally little about the auto hobby itself, but that's incredible for how deep the similarities actually go. Definitely int...

Re: Discussion thread: what is customizing to you?

What I'm basically asking is "Can a custom go too far?" It all depends on the intent of the customizer; If the purpose of a given custom fig is to use it in a build/display (or simply fit into the LEGO aesthetic), yes, obviously the figure should try to match the overall style and level o...

Re: Discussion thread: what is customizing to you?

it's a custom: his torso is back-to-front. Well yes, that type of customization involves popping off the arms and switching their orientation, something I made clear above I consider results in a custom piece. For example, I have a caveman hair/beard piece that I bought new from TLG but chunks of i...

Re: Discussion thread: what is customizing to you?

Sorry I was not clear. The key word in my quote is "may". I too have seen some excellent "customs" made this way. Ah, my apologies; yes, from the wording, I thought you meant to imply all creations of that sort couldn't be something creative or interesting. Glad to know we feel ...

Re: Discussion thread: what is customizing to you?

A valid point, the example with the cars. Maybe a difference to lego might be that it is made for being taken apart and reassembled. Switching torsos then cannot be customizing, it is just using Lego the way it is supposed to be. Cars Are not primarily construction toys, so maybe smaller alteration...

Re: Discussion thread: what is customizing to you?

I'd take the broader view more in keep with the concept from the custom car hobby: any action or use of aftermarket products that adds to or modifies stock parts (ie LEGO elements in our hobby) is a custom; really, I'd most likely be willing to accept even the switching around body elements (legs, h...

Re: BrickArms News and Notes

Just a quick note that folks contributing to the Castle display at BrickCon 2013 will receive one of these crates from Will:

The "all black" theme was requested by Josh as a nod to the classic black sword in set 6041.

Indeed. I'll admit, I'm ultimately much more of a fan of film than LEGO, so I occasionally lapse into that terrible habit of taking for granted a familiarity I really shouldn't

Re: Lee, Self-Loathing

For folks not as well-versed in Mr. Christopher Lee's filmography, it's a joke related to the cult classic and my personal favorite film starring Lee, The Wicker Man:

Definitely a great movie that I'd encourage folks to check out
