Heh, well I'm fairly new to using it myself.
For me it's taken a lot of time and patience, as I was using an old rag. But I guess the scourer would work a lot better, though.

There isn't a major reason for using. I guess the idea stemmed off wobnam's avatar is the shield with the skull in a maroon background. I don't have that many dark red pieces, so I chose to use red, to surround the avatar instead.
