Death Under Oak 2: Don't let greed get your goat.

This is a revision of a previously posted MOC... :P I realized that my original 8x8 entry wasn't nearly as effective as it could be for a LEGO castle crowd. In v1, the three rogue brothers found gold treasure instead of death, but ounce per ounce the LEGO goat is worth far more than gold. So here's ...

Vignette - Death Under Oak (repost with pic)

I'm going ahead and reposting this. My original post had issues. Pic below links to Flickr. It's an 8x8 vignette adapting "The Pardoner's Tale" from Chaucer's Canterbury Tales for the LEGO Forest Folks group on Facebook. [url=https...

Good Documentaries for Castle / Medieval Life?

I just watched a few great documentaries while I spent the week at home sick. TLG Centaurs vs. Brickforge?

Once upon a time ( before my second "dark ages"), I produced a custom centaur tutorial for CC. During my second dark ages, TLG has released official centaurs. Has anyone produced a photo comparison of the official ce...

Just to clarify, this is NOT my work. This is the work of maydayartist.

I am beginning my own big layout now (though because it's long and narrow, it's hard to figure out how I want to populate it).

maydayartist's medieval landscape in 'six chapters'

Last week I stumbled on a folder on brickshelf that shows the progression of a large medieval layout from 'the ground up". This got me curious, so I googled the user ( maydayartist ) and found that over at Eurobricks, he has posted a thread documenting the process of putting together a huge med...

Re: Collectible Minifig Series 4

WhiteFang at Eurobricks has posted a ginormous review of series 4 . I'm disappointed with the Musketeer (in addition to the annoying balled-point rapier, it has a pretty lame looking basket handle as well). I do look forward to the Gnome (though as WhiteFang comments, it's too bad there's not a diff...

Cool. We just got a new hot water heater, so I'll be able to get it nice and hot. . . . but not too hot. ;)

"Unbending" baseplates?

I recently was able to purchase 35lbs of mixed Lego, and included in that haul were the baseplates (and almost the complete inventory) from the Islanders' "Enchanted Island" set ( 6278 / 6292 ). http://img.bricklink.com/P/9/6024px2.gif http://img.bricklink.com/P/6/2359px3.gif The raised ba...

Awesome. I love how the white towers 'pop out'. At first I thought you were using some rare shade of light gray/bley, but then saw it was white. Very striking. Thanks for sharing.

Castle "Idea Books" on Google Books

There are some fantastic "Idea Books" on Google Books. No, not official Lego "Idea Books," but books on medieval architecture, etc. that can help spark your castle-imagination (a helpful thing for those of us in North America who can't easily go on a day trip to a local castle). ...

I just came across images of an illuminated manuscript found in the Bodleian Library (MS. Bodl. 264). There are high quality pictures hosted online here: http://image.ox.ac.uk/show?collection=bodleian&manuscript=msbodl264 Here's a description from the site: (fols. 3r-208r) The Romance of Alexand...
