I once made very detailed plans before I started. I will never do that again though. It reduces the actual building process to just putting bricks together without having to think or be creative anymore. In particular I'll never built symmetrical structures again. Building the mirror structure is no...

Thank you for your nice comments The castle isn't actually finished yet but for now my enthusiasm seems to have run out. The tower as such is pretty much finished but the plan is still to give it outer walls and additional buildings. That way I'll be able to bring it much more to life with additiona...

I too like the Duplo dragons. The Lego dragons really are too small (although the viking dragons are ok).

Most of all though I envy you a wife with an interest in Lego castles (even if it is only Duplo).

I'm in much the same situation. I'm building a very big castle in black now and have chosen blue as contrast colour. In fact quite a lot of blue. I've had some success using black slopes for texture since the slightly different surface reflects light slightly different. Still very difficult to photo...

Last year I bought 3 of these from ebay (.de) where they were advertised as spare parts for 375 and 383. I was disappointed 'cause eventhough the viking helmet, sword and lance look light grey they are in fact dark grey. Knowing that the set is ok but it just isn't what I collect. Best regards, Infy...

Great work! I think it's a really great castle. I also think it probably looks even better in reality because details disappear even more on photographs than in reality with all that red. I once built an (almost as big) red castle http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=73629 and had the sam...

My army consists mostly of knights from the original classic castle sets (375, 383 and 677). In total I have maybe 300 of them. In addition I have about 80 black falcons and maybe 30 forest men. I bought many of them from ebay.de where I found prices were lower than on ebay.com and so I think I boug...

I really like this set. Maybe not 10 but definitely a 9.

The set comes with two somewhat unmotivated red jewels. Or so one thinks. When he saw them my five year old son said that he'd seen a dragon with jewels for eyes and so we tried using them on the wolf! I think it looks even better that way.

Just a comment about colours. By far not all castles were grey. The colour would very much depend on the available material in the region. Having grown up close to a very big red castle (admittedly from 1600 or so) I'm fairly flexible as to the colour of a castle. Don't think I've ever seen a blue c...

I would buy a modified version of the 375. Grey or tan would be ok and new minifigs would be fine as well. Preferably I would like a true copy of the 375 but that seems impossible as too many bricks have gone out of production (helmets, feathers, 1x1 windows, stickers) and also the colours have chan...

Very funny Mausul. I had the same problem. At least when everyone else build spectacular castles in grey my castles in red and yellow gain an easy uniqueness. That aside I still think the yellow castle is the best ever. Possibly it would have been even better in grey but grey bricks actually didn't ...

I both disagree and agree with Robin Hood. I certainly don't think it's small but I do think it's brilliant! Very fairy tale like.
