Evolution of a Trebuchet - Part 1
A trebuchet is a siege engine that was employed in the Middle Ages either to smash masonry walls or to throw projectiles over them. They appeared in both Christian and Muslim lands around the Mediterranean in the twelfth century. It could fling up to three-hundred and fifty pound (140 kg) projectile...

Lots of great stuff, as usual. I'm loving the forest and then especially the river here.

Re: Medieval Food
Other foods that would have been available to Medieval commoner are foodstuffs such as turnips, radishes, wheat (of course, ya need it to make bread!) The only thing I've got along those lines is a wheat field, which I used the yellow levels for. Those pieces are becoming one of my favorite ones, t...

Re: Rebuilding the Ruins
It is interesting to see the people 'building' them. Thank you, Heir. I like posturing the people, although I bow to the Masters of minifig posturing, such as DNL. It doesn't come out and strike me as realistic, per-say, but it does have a great look and I can imagine all sorts of places for it. I ...

Rebuilding the Ruins EDIT: With storyline
Lambertt Hall THE RIGELLIAN HISTORICAL INSTITUTE Old Earth, 3421 A.D. Jim Tuvia stepped into the office, sitting down on the waiting chair beside his colleague, Bill Hansen. He took a look around the room, until his eyes finally fell on the presentation set up near the front of the room. He leaned o...

Re: Trebuchet Release Mechanism
Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I figure it better than starting a new one. I have this project almost done, but I'm getting stuck on the bag. I have looked at the pirate netting, folded together, but it's too stiff. Also considered the long flag from the Harry Potter line, the red and gold on...

Re: Weekly Set Review: Fireball Catapult
I am not a fan of this set, because the main redeeming factor in my mind is the shadow faction soldier. There isn't really even a catapult, just a lever and a rubber band, which does nothing for me. And a jellybean knight.....yuck. The horse is always nice though, so with that and the shadow soldier...

Re: Glomshire Gatehouse
I really like the wooden roof over head. Most MOC's don't have that, and I remember reading somewhere that many castles did have things like that to protect from things like rain during peacetime, to arrows during war.

Re: Fanwelt 2008
Just was browsing here and saw the pictures of the seige weapons. Very very nice. Does anyone have more pictures of them? As a side note, were trebuchets really that large compared to minifigs?

Re: LEGO Castle Adventure
Definitely, Bruce. To me, pretty much the only fun thing were the pre-built LEGO models, and the lego building tables. But listening to the kids who were there talking to there parents, they all seemed to be having a great time with the entire place. I listened to several arguments about how the par...

Re: Castle at Brickworld 2009
I'm might be attending, I'm not sure yet. The problem is, I don't actually own a car, I drive the old one of my parents', and they are loathe to let me take it for the weekend.
If I do come, I will bring mainly seige equipment, and possibly my Blacksmith's shop.

Re: LEGO Castle Adventure
Okay, so I was able to go to this earlier today, and was pretty happy, because it ends on Monday. I realized when I got there that I ha forgotten the camera, so I had to use my cell phone. Hense, please excuse the quite terrible quality of the pictures. So, we pulled in, parked, and realized we had ...

Re: Trebuchet Release Mechanism
Actually, not the firing pin, but the rod on the end of the swinging bar, that the bag hooks over. It's the piece right below the ball in this picture, near the top: http://gottatopic.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/trebuchet_copy.jpg Thank you for the ideas. Technic is out for the most part though, ...

Trebuchet Release Mechanism
Does anyone have any ideas for creating the release mechanism on the end of the trebuchet? I know in real life, it is a tilted rod. However, I'm not sure how to re-create that with LEGO pieces. Any ideas?
Thanks for your help, guys.
