Moderator needed?
Moderator needed?
I'm curious if we could bring in a new moderator to help with patroling the site?as it goes tonight we had a Post in the general LEGO section that was, well for lack of a better word "nasty" and not something we would like associated to this site, but unfortunately all of our mods and admins were not available to repel this post (it is still there as of this message),so this post is left up which does not do this site proud and gives the wrong message for this site.
So I ask the admins if it is possible to find a night time moderator or someone who will be available most of the night if not a chunk of it.

This is a tough one. All our mods and admins have lives outside of C-C (don't we all). As such, there will always be times when none are online. Even if mods were assigned to each major area (Europe, Oz, etc), there will always be gaps. Short of making everyone a mod (oooo, there's a thought ), this type a problem will continue to pop up. Ugly, I agree. Another approach would be to have a gatekeeper for new members, but that has it's own set of issues which have been discussed extensively here.
So, no easy solution. I'm with you in wanting this garbage to stay away.

I too have mixed feelings on this. Since all(correct me if I'm wrong) admins and mods are from USA; there's no one to watch over these lands while they're asleep. Since it'll be morning here in Europe, getting 1-2 European mods can easily solve this issue. However, I don't think it's that necessary. We are rarely exposed to such nasty stuff unless we go and read that topic. So yeah, even though getting a few more helping hands won't hurt, I don't think it's essential.

i'm just worried because we have kids on this site and what if their parents decide to check it out and see something like that what will it tell them about this site?Strider wrote:a very easy solution to all:

This has been discussed many times before. It's something we just risk by having an open forum. Users of this site must be 13 years or older, at which time they should be intelligent enough to know not to click on a forum thread with a raunchy title. Those under 13, especially very young and impressionable children, should probably be given parental supervision while surfing the internet, anyway, in which case the parent should be intelligent enough to know not to click on such a thread.Asterios wrote:i'm just worried because we have kids on this site and what if their parents decide to check it out and see something like that what will it tell them about this site?Strider wrote:a very easy solution to all:

And any parent with any modicum of intelligence should be able to stop and question their child why they were looking at such filth if said child had click on such a thread, in which case the parent with any modicum of intelligence would know that this website is about LEGO and not such filth, and was simply being spammed.
Let's make this clear - this website is not for children. It is intended for hardcore LEGO addicts, be they late teenagers or adults, and are expected to have the maturity and ability to handle such situations without having a nanny state of an administration to hold their hand while they are here.
The admins and mods get to the threads when they get to them, and not a moment sooner. There will always be times, regardless of how many mods there are, when spam will sit on the site for a period of time. It just can't be helped.

Because we've had it so many times before. There is no need for an another Mod. he topics are taken down very quickly, always. And, even if they are there, no one is forcing anyone to look at them, or click bad links. That was what Tony was saying. I'm kind of of wondering why the discusion is still going on...Asterios wrote:why did you bring up such a suggestion?Athos wrote:This conversation sounds familiar...

Battling with college to try and prevent the dark age.
I will say that I can understand Asterios's frustration, especially with the advent of pictures embedded in the spammer post. I was shocked to see that.
However, I do have to concede that it is most likely true that such spam will always make its way onto the site, no matter how many we have moderating here.
I am currently in Asia and get on CC around 1pm (1am EST), 5pm (5am EST) and late night (around lunch time in the states). I don't know how I still manage to miss these spams.
However, the last spam I found by Asterios's PM, which was a perfect way to handle it - if you see a spam, PMing one of us is a great idea.

Hey, I broke my fingers and moved and had a million other things going on, but I'll try and pick up some of the moderator slack now that I think I'm back.
