Problem with mail

Postby sonnich2 » Wed Oct 15, 2008 1:27 pm

Hi

I am using my work email, as m y private email does not work here.
I will close this account in a few days...

my private email is sonnich at hot.ee, and can it be that it is hot.ee that it does not like?
Benjamin Ellerman tells me, that gmail, hotmail etc are not allowed here.
The error was "Sorry, but this e-mail address has been banned."

Secondly I had to write to severeal members, as there is not 'admin@classic-castle.com' (as mentioned somewhere) so there is no admin or contact address.

Hello,

If you get that error message, it is because your address is banned. Ben listed the major services that are banned, but there are more than that. If @hot.ee is banned, it is because we have received spam from that server. You have to admit that your server name does sound rather...questionable.

As for contacting the Admins, we do not have a generic admin email address. But our contact information is under "Contact" on the left sidebar on the home page. I know my address works as I get mail there everyday.

Hot.ee might sound questionable, but it's not. It's one of the biggest Internet portals in Estonia, owned by Estonias biggest telecom provider, Elion.

I wasn't aware of that.

Thanks,

Can I expect a change so I can user my real email?
Basically, hotmail should be questionable just bacause of "hot".
Secondly, banning is a bad thing, as it might hit word in other languages, which single-language-poeple usually do not understand...

Example: a Swedish bus company is banned due to this problem: www.swebusexpress.se - it has nothing to do with sex, but stupitidy blocks it many places.

I have fixed your email issue. We do not ban sites randomly, based on keywords. If we get hit with spam and the originating email appears to be a spam site, we ban it. At some point we were hit with porn spam from an email address from your provider. Based on that and the fact that the name seemed questionable, we banned it.

This may result in occasional mistakes, but I would rather err on the side of protecting our current users. If there is a mistake, people can contact us as you have done. Allowing spammers to fill our site with trash would damage our community much more than having a few new members end up in our spam filter.

Also, for your information, hotmail is banned. Not because of its name, but because too many spammers use its free services.

If you wish to continue this conversation, feel free to contact me via my email or PM.

Thank you,
Josh
