Should we have more faction info?

Post by TheOrk »

Should we have more faction info? I have alot of friends who have never heard of LEGO from before the year two thousand. They wanted to buy some stuff off bricklink but they don't know anything about the different factions.
This is just idea.

There is a complete castle set listing here. What more do you need to know?

I'm still confused about what kind of faction info you're talking about. Past what each looks like, there's not much more to know, and you can tell that from the sets.

I'd also like to know what you mean by "faction info". As far as I know, there really isn't any story behind most of the factions prior to KK2. Furthermore, I'm not even sure if faction names and stories would be consistent from country to country. In the United Kingdom, for example, the Forestmen were identified as being Robin Hood's men. In North America, this is never mentioned, or even suggested. Other factions such as the Crusaders, received their name from a brief description in the 1992 Catalog.

I don't really know what other faction information exists. You can probably get most of your faction information by reading through the catalog scans at Brickshelf. Other than that, I can't really think of where you would get any other official information regarding Lego Castle factions.

Still, there may be other official information that I'm unaware of. If you do have more information, I would love to hear it.

Later, and good luck!

Hello!

On www.Rittersets.de I give a short introduction to each faction: Released in 19xx, in catalogue until 19xx, short description of their most important features, buildings, siege weapons, additional info like keychains, appereances in posters, curiosities and the like.
In German, of course.

Hi Ork,

As the sets administrator at CC, I decided to arrange these archives by year of set release and not faction. You can search sets by faction at rittersets (like Jojo said) or at fibblesnork LEGO guide on lugnet:

http://www.lugnet.com/fibblesnork/lego/guide/castle/

I prefer to search by year because it is less confusing for an overall listing than by faction. If a set has figures from multiple factions then it has to be listed in both factions pages.

I am willing to make additional pages for each faction and add them to the sets archive. This project will be added to my to do list ;) Keep in mind as others have said that there is not very much faction information for the older themes. Many people have created storylines for the factions, but the great thing was kids were able to create their own stories then and were not "spoon-fed" stories like today.
To me it doesnt matter but incomparison to some other sites there isnt a whole lot of info.
This is true for faction information but not for set information. No other major archive has multiple language names listed like CC does or individual image photos of each set (which arent just the first page of instructions). In addition, I try to keep my set information up to date as much as possible for extra set info which is listed in the set description.

I think if you are asking about a story line like the KK2 then there isn't any. When the factions came out they didn't have a back story. Basically each new faction showed them fighting whoever was handy. For instance you always saw crusaders fighting black falcons, but there was never any comic or set story behind it.
(I don't know if this is what you were asking, but it didn't seem to have been covered in this thread)

I think he was saying that his friends don't kwo the difference between Fright KNights and Black Falcons. Maybe a simple picture and a name of the faction would help them Ork. And theri insignia. The factions aren't all THAT confusing.

I think that they could make there own story about each faction. This is what makes LEGO, LEGO.

I'm currently at work on an article that contains some of that information.

I have been thinking the same thing. I know I saw a site that listed each castle torso and what faction it belonged to, but I can't find it now. I know there are lots of people who can't identify each and every torso, or who might not be aware of various differences between factions. Black Knights and Dragon Masters are a case in point since they use the same insignia with only color diffferences. There have been several times that I got a torso in a lot off of Ebay and didn't know right off where it came from. In one case, several years ago, it was the Fluer-de-lis torso from the Fright Knights. So, anyway, a database or article with the different torsos and/or insignia would be helpful for new castlers, I think. I don't currently have the time, but might in the future if no one else gets around to it. Is this the kind of article you are working on, Rogue?

This site is great for minifigs:
http://www.minimundo.de/
Also on Fibblesnork you can list by series and get which sets and which figs are in each:
http://www.lugnet.com/fibblesnork/lego/guide/castle/
Neither of those is current to KKII, though.

Yup, that is it! I had forgotten the name of the site. This is what I was talking about making but now that isn't needed. I was thinking that this was gone. Thanks, Bruce!
