That's good advice Jojo. Build to have fun, not just to win prizes. Colossal Contest categories are related to prizes. So it depends what the admins find for prizes or what is donated to us. I would expect the categories to be similar to the last 2 contests, but we will have some new ones and get rid of a few also.

good advice. i dont build to win prizes really though. i dont expect to win. i have a problem of lack of inspiration and a major lack of peices. Its jsut that contests give me ideas of stuff to build and i like to have a purpose for building. i like buildign for the fun of it, but when inspiration runs dry a contest is a good thing to build for. but sorry for this thread. i guess it was far too early. thanks again for advice.

Well, if it's just inspiration that you're looking for, visit the old contests, and take a look at the entries and categories there. The Yeti wrote:Good advice. guess it all comes down to not enough peices and lack of purpose. people who have lots of lego can sit down and build a big castle or something like that, but with less peices u have less to build on your list. but good idea still, and i most certainly will check out hte earlier contests.

Hey Yeti,
Formendacil is right, we haven't discussed it at all and probably won't for several months. However, if you look at the previous contests:
CCCI: siege weapons, medeival life, carts, classic shops, CCC wall buildings, CCC tudor style shops, tower-gatehouse-keep, heroes and villains, and miscellaneous
CCCII: siege weapons, medeival life, wagons and carts, medieval ships, outlaw fortress, miscellaneous, castle vignette, CCC tudor style shops, fantastical/mythic customization, historic/realistic customization, DaVinci, and beats
You'll see that some categories remained the same, but we discarded some and added new ones. Largely the choices of category were related to the prizes we had available, what worked and didn't from the previous contest, and where we thought the interest of the community was heading.
But, as others have said, don't worry about planning for the CCCIII yet. Just build for the fun of it. If contests lend you inspiration, though, why not build something for the Checkmate Chess contest? I'm sure we'll have other smaller contests like the seed part challenges etc before the CCCII rolls around. There are also periodic contests sponsored by other parts of the community. For instance, you still have time to build something for the Joe Vig contest on Lugnet (but run by some familiar C-C.com faces).
