Help!
Help!
Hi guys!
This is a matter of grave importance-I have no idea how to get pictures on a post I make!
I'm sorry for my stupidity -because this could be the easiest thing in the world, but I don't understand the insert image icon.
I tried copying and pasting but it had no effect.
I don't even know if this is the right Forum to post this message in.

Hi Graynar,
This topic is a bit more appropriate in the the "publishing" forum, but it can also go here for now.
First you need to have your pictures online to link to. I suggest www.maj.com for free lego picture hosting (This site is a sister site to www.brickshelf.com ) Once you have a photo online, you copy the link to it.
Example of my City Gate:
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Benja ... tygate.jpg
Then highlight that text with your mouse and click the "Img" (image) button on the upper right. That will make it look like this not including the spaces:
[ img]http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Benja ... tygate.jpg[ /img]
Then you get this:
Also please do not post images larger than 400x300 pixels in the forums. Hope this helps.
Ben E.

Would it be possible to automatically resize photos? I am not sure how to resize them just yet, and an automatic re-size would be very useful...
perhaps too useful though... I hope the forums don't get clogged with pics, since the process of posting pics to the forum is so simple...

The point of requiring a resized pic is not only because of the size of our forum pages, which an automatic re-size would take care of, but the bandwidth of our phone modem using members (like me). An automatic re-size function would only display the picture smaller than it actually is, without editing the picture.boses wrote:Would it be possible to automatically resize photos? This would mean that if the picture was, dramatically, 200 million x 100 million pixels, and was resized to the 400x300 pixel size, you would still have to download the raw 200 million x 100 million pixel sized picture before the forum could then visually resize the pic.
There are tons of free picture editing pieces of software out there, and there are tons of posts and articles here and elsewhere on the subject. If you are using a Microsoft Windows product, you already have MSPaint, which can be used, in a limited degree, to shrink any jpg or bmp.

Hello!
(It is NOT sufficient to delete the extension "BMP" and type "JPG" instead :-) )

...while it is recommended to not upload files in BMP format to the internet. The trick is to convert BMP files to JPG files at about 80% compression. Most if not all picture editing programmes are capable of this. When saving an edited picture you are asked what file format you want to have the pic saved to, and that's it.SavaTheAggie wrote:If you are using a Microsoft Windows product, you already have MSPaint, which can be used, in a limited degree, to shrink any jpg or bmp.

This is just the sort of nonsense up with which I will not put.

Jaydubya over at CSF made a handy list of free image resizer programs.

Further on resizing, if you post your pic to Brickshelf or Maj.com, it will automatically create a thumbnail, and you can link to that rather than the actual image.
So, for instance, here is an original picture I have on Brickshelf. The size is 384x276 pixels, the url is http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/brick ... et6085.jpg
The automatic thumbnail is 128x92 pixels and the url is http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/brick ... _thumb.jpg
You can copy the thumbnail image location by right-clicking or control-clicking and "copy image location" from the page of thumbnails.

I have learned...
if you load a 640 by 480 image in MsPaint, and stretch-skew it by 62% in both height and width...
you wind up with a perfectly-sized image!!!
