Spell checker?

Post by Ye Olde Republic »

Is there a spell checker here? Every now and then I use a word that I'm not sure if I spelled it correctly, so, am I missing something or is there no way to check my spelling? It would also help finding typos before clicking on submit.:D

I can also think of a couple of other members right off hand who would benefit from having one.

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

Yes, and his name is Ben Ellermann :)

Otherwise, no, to my knowledge we do not have an automatic spell checker (yet anyway).

I could be wrong though.

Try this: http://www.iespell.com/

Otherwise, sometimes I edit posts for spelling, and Ben does it too.

No! Not IE! *bashes*

There are some browser plugins (like the one above).

Also, if Troy has a bit of time, he COULD install this:

http://phpbbhacks.com/viewhack.php?id=2020

Looking through the instructions, doesn't look too hard. I'll try it on my own board and see how it works out.

Hehe, this is too true. Mainly I fix noticeable spelling errors such as errors in topic titles.

I do use IEspell but there are several other programs that people can use.

Right now, I simply copy and paste the text to MS Word, do spell check, then re-copy and paste it back to the post. I takes a little more time, but it works. As I type this, however, I'm downloading ieSpell, so I'll see if it works.

Old_Republic,

You are a lazy, lazy man. Its called preview, use it and you can see just how lame your post will be.

To the rest of you, I know him well so a lighthearted jab will be taken as such, don't worry, I'm not starting a fight...

... I don't think I am anyway. :D

Well, I tried to install the spell checker that Devari pointed out, but could not get it to function completely. It would check the spelling of the message, but then would not nsert the corrections back into the message. I will try it again sometime when it is not 3:30am.

I think it could be a nice addition.
I'm pretty sure that I'm doing a lot of mistakes sometimes.

Sometimes it's hard to understand when I couldn't find the meaning of a word that is not well spell.

My English is better than before, but I do a lot of mistake again.

For us poor non-English native speakers a spell checker would be a bless. I had a hard time even learning to spell my own language a bit decent (being mildly dislectic) and I keep on struggling with a few pesky words in English. For instance, I'm alway confused which 'witch' is wicked and what one is 'which' :?

With friendly greetings, M. Moolhuysen. (who sometimes has written 'freindly' or 'greatings' instead)

Hello!

Hahaha! That's also my function in the 1000steine-Forum.

I'm pretty sure my spelling is not so bad, but my grammar is. I'd appreciate a grammar checker rather than a spell checker ;)

Reviving an old thread...

My Google tool bar auto updated the other day and it now includes a spell checker for web forms. For those that care or can't spell (like me), it works pretty slick here on CC.C.

I can't see the problem, all you have to do is to copy/paste into word, check spelling and grammar, then copy/paste back, and submit. Simple, effective and really does not require that much effort.

I see Mr.D is as wise as I am  .
