I'm not liking the number 3 user from bottom. As usual I haven't personally checked the link, but when someone says that their interests and occupation are their website URL, that's a good warning sign. Go get 'em Admins.

I'm wondering how these spamming robot things work. I'm guessing "Vhjsofht" (our newest user) is a spammer, as his links are about pharmaceuticals. What is odd, however, is that he is also the newest user at fbtb. Which makes me wonder if there is some kind of spamming system that targets Lego boards...

Not LEGO boards, but boards using the phpBB forum software, which both C-C and FBTB use. Apparently there is a hole for which they've yet to develope a patch, or we've yet to find and implement.Athos wrote:I'm wondering how these spamming robot things work. Sorry for the double post, but the latter is true. There are some very easy adaptations to phpBB available that block bot users out completely.SavaTheAggie wrote:Not LEGO boards, but boards using the phpBB forum software, which both C-C and FBTB use. How exactly I'm afraid I don't know, at this forum of mine we paid a guy who said he could keep them off the boards completely and permanently, and I don't know what he did or how, but it works. Not a single spammer has registered or posted since.
If you want I can give you his contact information so you can see if he can be of any help here.
A new bad post in the dear lego forum! To the gallow with you, Rasta!

Ironic, all these pointless replies to a post about spammers...architect wrote:Both of today's spammers have been deleted and banned. You can also send pm's to an admin or mod to remove posts instead of posting to this thread. Thanks.

One thing I've noticed is that the majority of the "spammer" profiles I've clicked on have ICQ Numbers. What are those anyway? And is it possible to ban profiles with ICQ Numbers? Would that even help? Perhaps it would stop some bots? Or do I not know what I'm talking about? Which is possible, BTW.

ICQ is an instant messaging program like msn messenger or yahoo messenger, but instead of working with e-mail addresses it works with numbers like phone numbers.
Therefor you can't ban every profile with an ICQ number, because some or most of them will be actual members that use ICQ.
