will lego produce romans?

Post by Tanotrooper »

Hey all,

I think many of you would also like Romans. I see a patern between lego and playmobil, I hope lego will follow it:

playmobil made a redesign of the castle theme. Lego does the same with the new sets.

Playmobil released vikings, wich are discontinued now, and replaced by Romans. Lego is discontinuing (correct?) vikings now, so...

Will there be a Roman line?

If they do, the roman legionaries will be wearing the new metallic silver and pearl silver armors.

If anyone has anything to say or has news, please post it here.

Hi Gaetano, not any time soon since Castle 2007 will probably go on for a few years. There is a possiblity since TLC made ninjas which is eastern castle.

I doubt it. Lego has never really done a specific historical line before; it's usually either based on general historical ideas (Classic, Lion Knights, Black Falcons, Black Knights, Royal Knights, Ninja, KK1) fantasy (Dragon Masters, Fright Knights, KK2, and Castle 07) or folklore and mythology (Forestmen, Wolfpack, and Dark Forest).

I'm not asking for a completely historical correct line, but as a side line to castle like the vikings are/were.

I need just 4 things:
roman armor (lorica segmentata)
legionair helmet
roman short sword
roman scutum

That's all. I don't care if they make it as a skeleton in an adventurer set, but these are the most important things.

If lego would produce something like this, I would be very happy.

That would be amazing. :) I would love lego romans, that would be almost as good as lego byzantines (and a lot more likely). I however have to doubt that lego would do this, still we can dream...

God' speed

Meh... the Romans may have been the most powerful civilization of the ancient world, but what have they done for us lately?

All right... all right... but apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order... what have the Romans done for us?

This thread belongs in the Dear LEGO forum so I will move it there. The LEGO Castle Sets forum is for discussion of existing castle sets and not other lines. Thanks.

I have tons to say about this, and I have in other similar threads, however I thought I'd point out a MOC by armothe.
It's a mock set that would fit well into LEGO's fascination with fantasy, etc.
but still provide us with Romans and/or Greeks.

AND I thought, a theme line like these would give LEGO reason to re-introduce the cypress tree!!!

Actually, this has been a dream line for me too! I treated the Dragon knights as "Romans" since they had the crested helms and curly beards. There were colored plumes and cloth capes. I would really like to see this, but I think Lego will always concentrate on what kids want (dinosaurs, dragons and less historical nostalgia).
The term "Hobby" allows you to explain to your relatives why you still play with toys...

That would interesting... Because right now I have my own Roman faction, if LEGO comes out with a real Roman theme... I have to get inventive and use my current "Romans" as something else.

Romans

Lego seems more interested in sets that will sell to kids than sets that will make history buffs's jaws drop. That's fair enough as they are a business and have to make money. But one of the cool things with the new castle line is that it caters both to the history fans and the fantasy fans. I think a Classics theme could do well, stradding mythology and various periods of pre Dark Age history.

Hoplites, legionaires, barbarians, heroes, villains, monsters, and maybe even gods and goddesses could all interact in a fantasy themed world. Temples, arenas, oared galleys, fortresses - the potential sets they could put out would be far greater than a typical medieval style castle line. As long as the theme sold well they could easily go for years without rehashing the same ideas.
