Roman Legionnaires with the exception of the Centurions wouldn't need plumes. Plus real Romans have very different looking helmets compared to the Dragon helms.

Exactly. The dragon helmet while decidedly greco-roman in influence could only have been worn be either the praetorian guard, or very hire ranking officers, and even they have would have had shorter neck protectors. Plumes on the other hand, it is thought, were worn on perade by the legions, though they would probably look different thatn the officer's.JPinoy wrote:Roman Legionnaires with the exception of the Centurions wouldn't need plumes. Also it is of note that the silver brest-plate could also have been in use only by officers as the legions generally wore lorica segmenata (bands of iron made into armor), with lorica hamata(chain mail) and squemata(scale mail).

What Im saying is that I'd like to see REAL parts and accessories that will look like the real Roman equipment. Not substituting one part to represent something else.
Thats like saying, "oh we don't need Lego maces, just use those 1x4 antenna pieces!"
Imagination can only go so far -vs- VISUAL representation. If you show a person who is not a fan of Lego, a dragon-helmeted Lego Legionnaire they'll make comments on how thats not a Roman helmet. Especially when those people, like many Castlefans here, are history buffs and actually know their ancient and medieval armors.
Besides, the Dragon helms have a rather Chinese-fantasy look about them...

I would love to see a Romans theme.
There is plenty of scope for lots of different sets at various price points:
Centurion (mounted),
Foot soldier minifig pack,
Gladiators in arena,
Villa,
Ballista,
Boudicca in chariot,
Hadrian's wall under siege from the Scottish ala Siege Tower,
doesn't take much imagination to picture lots of interesting figures and buildings in a unique style.

with a thread here and on eurobricks, lets hope it gets noticed.
Romans wore lorica segmentata and a imperial gallic/itallic type of helmet in the first half of the 1st century AD until the 2nd half of the 2nd century AD, with the rectangular scutum:
http://www.alfamodel.it/Sezioni/Evo_Ant ... agine5.jpg
In Republic times:
-5th and 4th century BC: heavy hoplites with skirmishers and light infantry
-4th to 1st half 1st century BC: montefortino helmet, a kuras (bronze plate on chest) or chainmail.
I'll continue this tomorrow (23.35 now...)

Yeah, what else DO you see? I'm one of the few who would not want a Roman line as most of the other factions are of a later time period (midieval based). It just looks funny when one nation has its knights in full plate armor standing next to a "Roman" themed nation with the knights looking like they are going to a beach party.Escape The Fate wrote:personally i dont want a roman line unless they make the buildings realistic, and the go with the roman type helm that we have right now or something close to it.
It comes down to preference. I would prefer ancient Egypt than Rome if I had to pick one but would rather LEGO stick to the midieval period. I could see LEGO possibly doing an "Atlantis" theme as its more open to variation(interpretation) than a Roman line.

Atlantis was certainly the missing piece of the Johnny Thunder puzzle. Now that we're getting true Indiana Jones sets we won't get such a line.
