Post by timber_wolf899 »

When was the last time we saw an actual gatehouse? 6090? Man.....

I fully agree. Those gates that lift up into the air, with no means to do so, are completely silly.

Agreed.

I would love to see a more practical Castle Gate House.. The latest versions just don't make sense.

you mean draw bridges? Used for crossing a mote ,I don't see why Lego uses them for castles that don't have a mote!

No, they're talking about this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portcullis

I agree that gatehouses need to be taller. This was a nice feature seen in 6080 King's Castle, 6085 Black Monarch's Castle, 6074 Black Falcon's Fortress (no portcullis, but tall), 6081 King's Mountain Fortress, 6086 Black Knight's Castle, and 6090 Royal Knight's Castle. Why not bring it back again?

If done properly and economically it could be a seperate set that features a pair of defense towers, a short bridge and a tall gatehouse to sit across an imaginary moat to the castle. It could dial upward using a simple Technic axle, gear , gear-teeth lining the edges of a plate-based portculis and the 4-handle endpiece in the current King's Castle Siege for the figures or builder to turn. It is accomplished in one of the new Indy sets coming out. String and pulley designs are also possible, and cheaper still, but less fancy-pants.

And we all know that building castles is all about being fancy-pants.

The Scorpion Prison Cave had an interesting portcullis design. It worked really well.
