Lego Siege engine creator kit

Post by Dr.Cogg »

I would like to hear thoughts on this, because I think this would be more likly to become a set than create your own castle.

Now this sounds like a cool idea. I would certainly (try too at least) by one.

I agree. It could have some type of catapult, trebuchet, ballista, rams or the likes.

I think having sets where one can built carts and wagons, or various medieval like boats or small fortresses would be nice as well. You could have a small building set with houses, small towers, walls, agtehouses, manors houses etc. REally there is alot of things that could be done for a creator for the castle theme.

Interesting idea. I'm still more of a fan of designed sets that building buckets. But this still sounds like it has potential.

Generic soldiers and peasants FTW!

But on the topic at hand, I too find building the siege engines one of the funnest parts of building a castle.

Have you seen bulls attack from 2000:

http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=6096-1

The set and instructions included multiple siege engines combinations including ballista’s trebuchets etc.

http://peeron.com/scans/6096-1

Was this what you had in mind, I liked it but I don’t think it sold all that well anyway I think it was a good set ideal.

Mario

Edit
I should add Dr Cogg that Gilbert the Bad pictured instructing the build on page 32 of the instructions is 2nd in command of the bulls and the only officially sanctioned Lego Castle siege engineer of any note.

You can still pick this set up at reasonable prices and MISB at bricklink.

I'm in favor of this idea, but I would qualify my support based on the following: Instructions for alternate models must be included. Generic peasants, or peasant print designs on different color torso's is desirable. Maybe a new peasant print. There should be enough pieces to build a small fortification, using most, if not all the pieces included.

OR

Lego, in it's irrational exuberance over catapults, finally builds an attractive and sophisticated trebuchet.

Mario,

Yes I have seen that one. I really wish I had bought it but it was in the dark days. It is not exactly what I was thinking as the idea is to build all the engines from the same pieces.

PP,

I think thats a requirement for sure. If it does not have the instructions for all of them it would just not work. The additional peasant also would be good. Better yet a siege engineer and two peasant labourers or more to do the real work! Maybe one gent with some nicer clothing and the rest all in poorer cloth.

I'd love to see a really nice treb as well

Working LEGO siege weapons have always been a desire of mine. I'm tired of rubber-band powered catapults. They tend to be small-scale and don't work very well.

But I also agree with Timberwolf. We need a big castle to siege before we can have big siege engines.
May the blessing of the Lord be upon you. <><
