A few things I am hoping for: more trees, not like the molds, but using several pieces, bows and quivers, distinct buildings, traps, the hair that can fit under the helms, and round shields, all those would be very nice.

Minifig elves need ears... it's the only way to distinguish them from 'dwarves' and 'humans'. Plus, it will give us a way to put eyeglasses on them. I can't wait to build a Mr. Spock fig, with glasses. like this:

but with ears, of course.

Eyeglasses? In the Castle middle-ages era? Strange thought. To me it would look lame to have a knight walking around with a pair of Raybans on his face like a movie star. As far as ears I hope not. All my other "elven" figures would need them as well.

Anyway, what I'm hoping for in elf sets. Hmmm, let's see... None of that Tolkien-generated elves-are-the-immortal-pure-race stuff. Trees, BOWS!, quivers, cool new headgear/hair, but not helmets that fit over hair. Tattoos on some of the elves arms and faces. Kind of that Native American vibe, but they have chainmail and natural looking armor and swords. Well that's just my two cents LEGO!

But Tolkien-esque elves rock...

MrBlack, you took what I said wrong, I'm not saying I don't like Tolkien elves, I don't like how he makes them the incorruptible, pure, good, immortal stuff.

Yeah I've read alot of critics on Tolkiens work and most seem to agree that for what he envisons "elves" was probably not the best word. They're practically angelic. Nothing wrong with that of course, just the term causes some confusion.

Like I said earlier, using the LOTR analogy, I'd prefer Mirkwood elves. More rural and mysterious.

Really I want a bow heavy, hanging out in trees, and not much heavy armor like all the other current factions.

So basically Forestmen.

Read the Silmarillion. There are plenty of instances of Elves being greedy, killing each other, and otherwise making Poor Choices. They're far from incorruptible.

A good point. I never looked at the Tolkien elves as perfect or such.

I do in some ways hope for a forest based elf group from Lego and since it is shown on the map as such that's what I expect.

I would not mind a race of 'High' elves but any elves are good for now!

Exactly. Read the Hobbit too. The Elves of Mirkwood aren't exactly "pure" and that's where Legolas was from, if I remember correctly.

Your memory serves you well. Legolas is the son of Thranduil (or some such spelling), King of Mirkwood. He was most likely around when Bilbo and co. were imprisoned in the Hobbit.

I agree with Jansen, but I don't think it will matter one way or the other. How our elves act and what they're culture's like is ultimately up to the owner. No "backstory" TLC throws at us will change that one way or another.

I just hope we don't get any pretty-boy elves. The world doesn't need any more Legolas's

To Sibley: I've never read the Silmarillion, but I'll take your word for it. I based what I said on the Fellowship of the Ring, which I read. To tell you the truth, I don't really like Tolkien's writing style, except for the Hobbit.

To Josh: I did read the Hobbit, but I didn't really think about the Mirkwood elves when I posted. In my post I didn't make myself clear, I was trying to say I didn't want the Tolkien "high" elves.

To Voran: Completely agree with you. It should be up to the builder, and no more pretty-boy elves!

I think LEGO will make the elves match Tolkien's Elves like the Dwarves match Gimli, Gloin, etc. But if the do match Legolas, great! I won't have a problem with it because my elves may have different personalities than his. Just like the dwarves in that they're not so greedy as in Tolkien's. I allow the possibilty that Dwarves can be just as powerful as a Glorfindel or Elrond.
"Pretty boy elves" are just as usable as the other types(Wood, Gray, Dark, etc). For the Dwarves I divided them into the "Longbeards" and those with the "Viking" style bearded faces.
We'll all have to see how they turn out.
