Fewer white horses please *now with poll*

Post by Ye Olde Republic »

I don't know about the rest of you all but I'd love to see less white horses and more of the brown and bay(for those who don't know, bay is brown with black mane and tail) colour variety. That said, how about some new colours? Dark orange would make for a nice bright chestnut horse. How about tan with a white mane and tail? That's a nice Belgian for castle applications and a palomino for other.

It's nice to at least now have the variation of finally having a new red-brown horse (with silver detail on the bridle).

Other colours would be great, like dark orange or dark brown.

Grey would be nice too. Personally, I don't need anymore horses... at least in the standard 3 colors...

Silly people. White horses are grey! Anyone who knows anything about horses knows that...

All snark aside, yes--more horse colors please! I think tan and dark orange would be my top two picks. Followed of course by green, red and purple so that I can recreate the Emerald City sequence from The Wizard of OZ and oh dear I'm snarking again...

Stop it, you hijacker. ;)

I grew up around horses and have always thought of the official LEGO horses to be the draft type horses. Brown ones are Clydesdales and the white and black ones are Percherons. Black ones being younger than the white ones. A lesson to be learned here is that when a Percheron is born, it's jet black and as they age they lighten. Some go near white but most are quite familiar with the dappled grey look they often have./lesson

That said, it's not out of the world that all the horses in LEGO Castle be black white or brown but I say historical accuracy be damned! What's the fun in realism?

A horse is a horse, of course, of course. :D Sorry, couldn't resist. As to the color I guess I agree that a wider range of colors would be better but I am more happy that LEGO hasn't modified the horse design. It's the same reliable model that has been produced since the early times(mid eighties).

While we're on the subject of horse colors, how about some markings? Like "socks" or a stripe down the forehead/nose, or maybe some dappling on the flanks.

Ah, you mean like that Native American horses, Karalora? Yes, I wouldn't mind some like them, but without the Native American decor...

Yes and no. Obviously we don't want Castle horses with blankets and feather ornamentation, but I also think the piebald coat is specifically a Native American thing and wouldn't look right in a medieval setting. Like I said, socks, facial markings, and speckled flanks are what I was thinking of.

Great idea! Glad you came back to CC. Here is a thread I did a while ago Horses . I like that the idea got brought up again. We need to push this idea onto the ambassadors along with another item that needs more colors Leaves . I'm not asking for stuff in every color, but some variations on these 2 items would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for getting this brought up again :)
