I was thinking it might be nice to have pieces in an off-white ivory color, roughly halfway between white and tan. It would look more authentic than straight white in castles and other old-fashioned buildings.

Olive-green would also be good, especially for military-themed sets.

Maybe- I wish Lego would concentrate more on their existing colours though.

There's still so few elements available in dark green/brown/blue- they should roll out more of a variety for these existing colours before creating even more specialist and new ones I think.

Fair enough. I think dark red could use a little more love too.

Is there anybody left besides me who wants lego to go back to when they only had red, blue, yellow, and white?

No more new colors, until we have sufficient pieces in the already existing ones (purple, the various blues, greens, greys (its inexcusable that we don't have a dark bley 1x6x2 arch), browns, etc.)

I am still awaiting the advent of the simple 1x1 plate in old brown. See, careful what you ask for... you may get it.

A couple of years ago LEGO announced they were going to be decreasing the color palette rather than increasing it, so that there would be more pieces in a given color rather than odd colors that could only be found in a few elements. It'd be interesting to track how many elements in how many colors were produced each year - maybe this is already on Peeron somewhere.

BTW, IIRC there are two oldbrown 1x1 plates in the Darth Maul bust, and those were the only ones ever produced in sets. -checks- Oh, there were also six in the Wright Brothers' plane. Definitely not cheap ways to build up these parts. There are a few Bricklink dealers with sizeable amounts (maybe they got these at Legoland parks? sometimes they'll have odd colors), but you'll be paying 10-20x more than for, say, a black 1x1 plate.

I'd like more use of the old colours but am not adverse to some newer colors. I just do not want a million colours all just a bit different. Makes sorting ...... less than fun and makes getting pieces of one colour less likely.

No, I think we have more than enough colours as it is.

I would personally be happy if TLC were to continue making more of the colors they already have in production (at least making most if not all styles of brick for all of the colors we already have). I am at the point in my collecting where diversity in color could not hurt, but I would like to focus on gathering a stronger amount of quite a few currently produced colors...

The palette is large enough, that it is often hard to find enough pieces of a certain colour.

I think something like this would be a good palette size:

White
Light grey + medium grey + dark grey
Black
Yellow
Red + dark red
Cyan + blue + dark blue
Lime + green + dark green
Pink + violet + purple
Orange
Light brown + dark brown
Light tan + dark tan

and I would leave silver, gold, chrome etc to accessories only.
Transparent pieces could even just be TrWhite, TrYellow, TrBlue, TrRed, TrGreen and TrBlack.

I just want a return to old brown. I have given up on greys, light and dark, and just have accepted bleys. However, brown, I still yearn for, lol.

On a happier note, I got my copy of the Medieval Market a week ago, and discovered the new dark brown, which I actually really like.

I agree with this list, however I think that you're actually missing a few essential colours here. Sand red, green and blue are all fantastic (and very useful). I also believe that trans orange is pretty popular. Adding new colours is one thing. Stripping builders of too many useful colous has the opposite effect.

Have you ever looked at both the old and the new brown together in strong light? The old brown looks unpleasantly yellow-greenish in comparison to the new brown.
