Can you back up this claim? :D While there have been a couple of years (very few) in which there were no new Castle sets released, but I don't remember there ever being a time that you couldn't find any Castle sets at all. Generally, in those "off" years, the previous year's sets were still available.
Target's shelves were bare of Castle, last time I was there... on December 26th...

Same thing happened to my local Target, and they have been out of the 7950 Knight's Showdown since Christmas. They did have 7949 Prison Carriage rescue and 7950 Knight's showdown on sale, however. The local Wal-Mart never had that much Castle sets to begin with except for the one or two days they had some individual Dragon Wizard and Jester impulse sets. Before Christmas it would take Target no more than a week and a half to get some more Castle sets when they sold out. I just think it's more of a replenishment to stores issue than LEGO not having any to sell.

Um....I don't think that's what he meant by disappearing from shelves. I think he meant that no Castle was available at all. Not that certain stores ran out of stock. :D

I speculate in 2012 that we we see a new faction and some civilian centered sets, I can't say for this year without breaking the rules because I've seen prelims.

Edit: I think castle came back, and it's here to stay.

Kev wrote:I speculate that the current castle line will die off in 2011 with maybe a couple small new sets, and will be replaced with licensed sets from the upcoming Hobbit movie in late 2011/2012.

From my observation, Lego has a standered followed by most themes: A intruductory line of 5-10 sets, A second line of 3-4 sets, And a Third line again with 5-10 sets with new characters/minifigures/story over a span of 3 years.

Example: Atlantis had a line of 9 sets, a second line of 5 sets, and is in middle of a third third line which has 5 more sets, 2 of which are unavailable in Canada and U.S. ( Cited from Brickipedia)

Therefor I would assume that Kingdoms would end in late 2012 or early 2013. As for Hobbit lego, TLC has never been able to get a license for LOTR despite thousands of requests and I don't see (If made by the same company - IDK) that they would get a license for The (drasticly behind, over budget) Hobbit. Even if they did, it would be a individual theme. TLC wouldn't get away with replacing Lego Castle.

Well, I think Lego is taking back the most cool ideas from past sets, this because from the begin of 2000 until 2006 Lego Castle focused for 4~14 ages market... Yes, I know they're toys and we AFOLs are not the target market but also there are "big children" and them like to build collections (like me :p and all us).

TLG is considering their potential market to do the planning. I expect, like most of us, a reboot. I would like them consider all the suggestions by consumers (no matter if AFOLS, KFOLS, TFOLS).

But one thing is true: Lego Group it's putting it ears very high and watching for buyers' oppinion about its sets. I hope Lego is "remasterizing" old castle sets :)

If you look at the Lego Shop at Home Catalogue with the QAR on the front , when you look at the Kingdoms page ,look at the castle shadow at the top left corner of the Windmill set (not the kings castle on the right).

I sure hope so, but it would be surprising if TLC put some fantasy elements in a otherwise human based castle line. Elves would be cool, but a Dragon Knights castle/fortress would be alright too.

Maybe will be 3 factions (the Dragon Lord's Castle, Elfs and some little Lion Knights Sets) and civilian sets :woo:

How many times do we have to go over this? They're not making elves.

They're actually making hybrid-ninja-elves. Half alien, half elf, all ninja. It will be the result of the brain sucking aliens from alien conquest taking over humans and turning them into zombies who are then reborn as elves, who are then trained by Sensei Wu himself in the art of Spinjitzu. In addition to being another faction in Kingdoms, they will also be released as the third faction in the Ninjago line and they will have pitch-forks and turkey. Seriously. Brace yourselves.

Oh please.

Maybe it's a larger Dragon Knights castle? :eyebrows:
