More Galaxy Squad

Probably not a popular idea on a Castle site, but I'd really like to see more Galaxy Squad. I think GS is the best non-licensed sci-fi theme since Star Wars came out, and I think GS is the best theme of 2013. The set designs are simply wonderful, and the theme is packed with so many great ideas: bug figures, giant bugs, robot figures, giant robots, vehicles with detachable sections, the bug larvas, cocoons, and the four colored squads. There is a lot of potential for building MOCs based on sci-fi properties like Pacific Rim, Starship Troopers, and StarCraft.

I was honestly surprised to see a second wave of Galaxy Squad sets, especially so soon. I have no idea what plans, if any, TLC has for the future of this theme, but here are some ideas for expanding it:

Wave Three: Rather obvious, but a third wave in 2014 would be great. Maybe four more sets, one for each squad. Furthermore, a new wave should introduce a second human figure for the red and green teams because they each only have one at the moment. Preferably at least one of those new figures would be female to prevent Galaxy Squad from looking like Smurf Village. One of the four sets should be a large hive structure for bugs; obviously this would be the one containing the red squad figures.

Polybags: The orange and green squads each have a polybag set available. Seems only fair to do one for red and blue eventually.

Battle Pack: A small set featuring four generic soldiers, one from each colored squad. Possibly another pack for bugs.

LEGO Exclusive: Many themes are given a large exclusive as their swan song. See Medieval Market Village, Kingdoms Joust, Haunted House, Diagon Alley, Imperial Flagship, etc. What is needed here is a human base for all four squads. Perhaps four small modular bases, one for each squad, that may be connected together in a variety of configurations or used separately. Bonus points if each section has instructions for an alternate module. Possible module ideas: Sick bay, communications, repair/hangar, mess hall, defensive turrets, bug holding facility, armory, and robot recharging stations. It would also be nice to see some new figures in a set like this. Possibly new named squad members, generic soldiers, or non-squad staff members like medics and a space chef. Finally, a giant centipede-like bug crawling on top of the base would just look awesome.

Maybe that last one is something for me to do on my own.

Hey, I can support this request. The one thing that would make it more appealing to me is if they gave the Galaxy Squad humans the armor that the CMF Galaxy Patrol guy had. They could work it in as an upgrade to help battle the insects. I'd prefer them in the darker color counterparts as well. I think all of them would look much better in their darker form. I agree with pretty much every point and suggestion you have brought up. Keep in mind that I neither own or plan to buy any of these sets, but I can still appreciate what this theme has to offer and how much better it is than most recent space themes.

Yeah, I really liked that armor. The Galaxy Patrol was my favorite from Series 7. Sadly, Lex Luthor is the only time it's been used outside of the CMFs. Perhaps it hasn't been used in Galaxy Squad because it doesn't fit well into vehicle cockpits? Still, it would be a cool item to include at some point, and it would be fun to have in more colors.

I actually had a recent conversation about this, and I kind of like the Bright Galaxy squad colors because the licensed themes all use darker colors. The bugs also use a lot of darker colors, so the bright squad colors provide a nice contrast to the bugs and to most of the licensed lines.

I can still appreciate what this theme has to offer and how much better it is than most recent space themes.
Thanks for the support and commentary.

I half to say I am split. On one hand (My right) I would love to see more of the human stuff. so far, all of the spaceship and vehicle designs have been fantastic, as well as fun. I really want to echo the statement that a big expensive set, like a base of sort, would be freaking awesome.

But, on the other hand (my left) I really don't care much for the insect side. I am not really into bug-shaped spaceships. The set designs are great, but just not my thing.

So more human stuff would really 'power my spaceship'.

I understand that. I wasn't too keen on the bugs at first, but I grew to like them. My fondness for games like StarCraft probably helped a bit.

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be seeing a mostly human space theme while the Star Wars license exists.

I guess we'll be waiting a very long time, then. I won't hold my breath.

I think more Galaxy Squad is a fantastic idea!

You see, I use the Blue troopers for my Space faction's default trooper uniform, and I have more elite troops (Collectible Minifigures Space Marine) than default troopers. Having more available would certainly boost my forces.

I've just started collecting, and so far I love the sets.

I can't share the same desire for a "base" however- in recent years TLG haven't been too good at producing them, as Atlantis/Chima/Ninjagogogog shows I think. I would love more sets all the same though- it'd be a shame if the theme died out after just two waves.

I really like the idea, :) I'm AFOL and I buy both castle and space themes. I would like to see that armor suit from the collectible minifigures series -Space Marine- in future sets as the upgrade of the present ones. I loved the spaceship from the Swarm Interceptor set.

Everybody loves that space marine armor.

I was sold on the Galaxy Squad theme when I picked up the Swarm Interceptor. It's a great design for a $20 set, and I like how beefy they made the wing attachments. The rotating and detachable cockpit and landing position for the wings were nice surprises too. It's kinda like a bigger version of a space set that I bought when I was 10:

Twin-Winged Spoiler

More than anything, I really want to see another small and cleverly designed human vehicle like the Swarm Interceptor if they do a third wave. The bigger stuff is all great, but I think $20 is a sweet spot right now. Swarm Interceptor is my favorite $20 space set since Battrax in 1987.

That is an understandable concern, and that is why I specifically hoped the base would be a LEGO Exclusive. The LEGO Exclusives have all been amazing, regardless of theme.

One or two waves is all most themes get anymore, but I'd love to see Galaxy Squad stick around for several years. They could simply have new enemies as time goes on. Kind of like how fantasy-era castle shifted from humans versus undead to later include dwarves and orcs.

Yes, totally. I bought the Swarm Interceptor and fell in love with Galaxy Squad, and I now have the Eradicator Mech, too. Lego, you've made something awesome, don't let it die out after 2 waves.
