I used to love playing with Playmobil sets, and I know exactly how much fun they are, and how similar they are (in some ways), to LEGO sets!

Of course ancient Greece or Rome would be wonderful. I think the popularity of Collectible Minifigs from these eras has proven the viability of such a theme. It could either be realistic, with armies, chariots, buildings etc, or else go mythical, and include Medusa, Pegasus, Hercules, etc.
A revamp of Vikings would be great, especially if they went more realistic, with less of the bionicle-monsters they had in the previous line.
Those said, my ideal would be a modular castle. They could have larger sets like a gatehouse and a keep, and then sets like corner towers and wall sections that you could buy more or less of and fit together to make a castle of any size. Like the old classic sets had walls that could go together, but with more modern building styles. For instance, see that extra castle wall set that could be hooked on to the larger Helms Deep set. In order to boost sales, they could have two different wall section sets with two different factions of soldiers, so you could buy several sections both to build up a larger castle, and also to build up two larger armies.

How I would love some classical-era sets and some more Vikings! I just missed the last series, which was pretty cool, but could definitely have been improved!
My brothers and I often discuss possible modular castles, and I still think it would be one of the best things LEGO could do for the castle theme, as long as each part was a real, 'playable' set in itself. I would love that so much, and Bruce's ideas are almost perfect!

How about a ''Woodland attack'' set? The trolls (which I think should be brought back) are attacking the small tower and the elves are defending, there would be 1 elf noble with chainmail hauberk, a series 3 elf hairpiece (along with a helm, preferably a new mold), a short sword and a round shield; and a elf warrior with a rubber tipped spear, a shield, some scale mail armour, a helm (new mold), a quiver and a bow.
Then on the bad guys we have a troll spearman: rubber tipped spear, a shield, leather armour (printed on torso) and a helmet
Also there would be a troll archer: a bullet helmet, a black tunic, a quiver, a bow and a short sword.
The small tower itself would be 8x8 tree tower
What do you think?

I love that idea Glorfindel, mostly because I want some trolls in castle sets! Trolls vs. Elves would be very interesting!

I want them to do a realistic modular type line.
First, I'd like new, realistic heraldry. Preferably like at least 4 different factions presented in the same way they were back in the old yellow castle days, in 'fresh' color combos (green & white, black & yellow, etc.):
First picture:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heraldry
Then for the modulars, first a big keep that opens and has a decent interior for $99.
Then a big gate for $49.
Then both round & square towers (with windmill or something) for $30 each. Two sets. They would have connectors so they could fit at a corner or in line in the center of the wall.
Then 3-4 different straight wall sections built maybe with a different small structure attached to each one, kinda like the Guarded Inn.
They could then update the sets with new factions associated with new structures that would still be modular with the existing pieces. An octagonal tower, new straight sections & structures, etc.

Lot of good ideas in this thread. I certainly don't hate the 2013 Castle line as much as some people (*cough* Eurobricks *cough*) seem to, but it would be nice to have different heraldry in later Castle sets. The recent crown lions and red dragons are different enough to be distinct from the Kingdoms ones, but it's always good to have variety. Like many of you, I was hopeful for new Black Falcons after Kingdoms Joust. Perhaps some day.
Overall, I don't mind too much as long as we get some medieval/fantasy type sets that aren't Lord of the Rings or some other licensed property. I'm so tired of licensed sets.

Yeah, that would be fantastic! There's so much potential in that line, especially for the figs

I may try some mock-up figs soon!

To be honest, I would be happy to get a new Castle line that is ANYTHING AT ALL BUT another Lion-Dragon (or other standard bad guy) theme with the same old five kinds of sets. I love the idea of mixing in some civilian sets and Bruce's idea to revive the modular castle scheme. And how about a variety of knights with different crests....I know the jellybean series is not beloved, but I liked how it included a variety of themed knights.

Agreed. This is exactly how I would picture an ideal castle theme. However, I think that is too much to release in one year. I think a $99 Keep, a $50 - $60 Gate, a $40 - $50 Corner Tower and a $30 - $40 Straight Wall is all you could hope for in one year, with some carts and army builders fleshing out the lower price ranges. However, if TLG would commit to a good multi-year castle theme again, year 2 could see continued production of those staple castle components from year 1, and they could introduce a tower variant and more straight wall variations. Perhaps one with a tower in the middle, one with a blacksmith, stable, kennel, etc.
Ideally, I'd love to see a theme like this continue for at least 5 years. They could produce a new keep every 2 years, and mix up the other components as long there was always at least one gate, one straight, and one corner on the market.
I think they could start with two factions, and then introduce a new faction every other year when they produce a new keep. Even better if the army builder sets included enough heraldry, flags, etc to swap factions on the modular wall sections.

That would be epic. You could swap around different castle sections from different years and have a custom castle.

I agree that a modular castle line would be really sweet, as well as some civilian buildings. And I'm actually working on designing such a line that I'll sell myself for now, and possibly submit to Cuusoo in the future.
You can see my first 'set' in the project, and more details about it here:

So many good ideas in this thread that it could be any of them. Because we can't have everything that we want I'll narrow it down to a few of my favorite ones. These have been modified by the fact that we have had two different Lions factions and two different Dragon factions in the past few years. Normally Lions are my favorite faction but even I might concede that they need to give them a rest.
Elves/Forestmen: I really enjoyed the Forestmen faction of yore and would not mind seeing it again as an "Elven" faction. They have the headpiece now as well as a new bow. For those few of us that did not want to fork out major $$ for LOTR elves, I would love to be able to add a non-fleashie Elven faction to go along with the other 2007 to current factions.
Falcon Knights 2: They did such a good job with the recent Falcon Knight(Kingdoms)that this is a must have.
Peasant/Civilian sets: As many of these sets as LEGO will allow. I realize that, as others have stated as well, this type of set may not fit the usual paradigm for LEGO Castle but the MMV was oh so good for adding some possibilities to a line. I like your ideas Karalora and that nice picture from surixurient...
Fantasy Elements: I like having Dragons and Trolls (big and normal sized). I envision a set having a knight on a barded horse fighting a dragon(like the red one from 2013) or a big troll. Kind of like "St Peter and the Dragon" or thereabouts. Plus some more dwarves.
Romans ?: Sorry guys, I'm just not into a Roman faction. Perhaps if they did it like they did the "Ninja" theme in the late nineties, maybe. Yes, I watched Gladiator and loved the first part of the movie very much(and the rest). I have watched most of the new Sparticus series on STARS cable channel and liked it too. But in my mind when watching these I find myself "converting" them to the medieval period.
Ninja 2: A long shot considering all the Ninjago offerings but in seven, eight, nine years when Ninjago has died out?
Just some thoughts, Hopefully 2015 will give us some great Castle sets/figures.
