Agreed. I am well aware of Viking history because in live in Eastern Canada. There are Canadian Heritage commercials that portray parts of Newfoundland as places rich in Viking history. It isn't great history...from what I can gather, they came to Newfoundland and slaughtered settlers/natives.CAI wrote:I just don't understand their reason. How do Vikings not appeal to North Americans, especially Canadians?
Not just because they are cool,.. but there is a rich viking history here to.
If you don't know what i'm talking about, try searching for "l'anse aux meadows vikings" in google.
There is a history. A history that goes as deep as Quebec. Especially Baie-Comeau. A small town with a deep Viking story. Their major junior hockey team is named the Drakkar. As shown here.http://www.lhjmq.qc.ca/lang_en/index.ph ... _equipe=11
The meaning of the name is explained
I want the Vikings line. Badly. If it takes S@H to get it, that's what I'll do. As long as I can get it without paying through the nose.4-Baie-Comeau Drakkar. Many people were unaware what this name meant when they first encountered it..but readers of the "Asterix" comic books definitely knew that a drakkar is the longship Vikings used in their expeditions. And there is historical evidence of Viking expeditions having reached as far into the mouth of the St.Lawrence river, where Baie-Comeau is located. Full marks for originality on the logo, with a Viking ship breaking through the ice, and with the orrs replaced by hockey sticks.
