Many have suggested creating a variety of theme packs (soldiers, peasants, etc) and I believe that line of thinking can be taken a step further.

Rather than create a set, pre-package accessory pack, why not use the Pick-a-Brink option. Create a special category and put all the castle themed items there. Offer a discount for ordering 25 'bricks' or more.

Why do I suggest this? I'm afraid that people's suggestions will be considered, but a theme pack will be made to appeal to children. That means very few peasant items and a crown in every bag. So it will be great for building an army with you generic minifigs and have a treasure vault full of crowns for every occassion, but you won't have enough tools to till your fields and not enough clothing for the serfs.

By using the Pick-a-Brick option, everyone can create a customized accessory pack. You need more hoods and pitchforks, order more of those items. You don't want the giant KK2 swords, don't add them to your cart. The kids want more knights, just pick swords and helmets.

More people will get what they want, equalling more satisfied customers.
I like this option a lot. The only option that I would choose instead of it is an accessory pack available at say TRU or something such that I wouldn't have shipping charges. Its hard for me because with the accessory packs it forces you to stock up on supplemental items you may not immediately need. But it has always been nice to design a King figure and have a Crown ready to top the figure's head.

I would offer both methods; why limit the consumer's choice?

Because lego only has a certain amount of money; to produce a lot of accessories like that would be expensive, especially if some of them didn't sell well, and especially if they weren't with the current theme (I could imagine dragon master shields in that PaB forever). Lego really can't risk that.

With the new pick a brick they may remove the need for accessory packs.

This may be true in the future. Adding two armor elements and a crossbow is a good step. However, this is not a large enough selection of castle elements as one would find in a previous LEGO Castle accessory pack. We still need bows, quivers, swords, lances, axes, spears, various helmets, shields, plumes, flags, and medieval civilian headgear (wizards hat, maidens hat, forestman's cap, cowl).

If pick a brick adds all of these elements, and an improved selection of grey bricks, plates, slopes, and arches, I will be satisfied. Until then, www.bricklink.com is still the best place to order parts for a castle creation.

Quite so, my friend, quite so. However, I for one will take this opportunity to outfit my (yet to be purchased) army with euro armor. Handy thing, pick-a-brick.

Go down, Moses,
Way down in Egypt's Land.
Tell ol' Pharoah,
Let my threads go.

Could they make perhaps two or three to keep prices down perhaps and allow more choice in it? Maybe one with weapons and armour and another with hair, clothing, civilian stuff?v Maybe also by the factions?

I loved the old days with the weapons packs. Even as a young child I'd convince my Dad and Mom thats what I really wanted those for my Birthday... :D I think I may infact have the inventory paper with them still. I think there were several over the years before Lego stopped doing it. With the new PaB I thought maybe these would not be as desired.
