Top Five New Accessories/Elements

Post by Athos »

I was thinking about this last night, and thought I'd ask. What are your top five accessories/elements, you wish Lego would produce?

Mine are:

1. A saw (something like the fabuland one http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=fabed7, but more minifig scale)

2. Deer (my soldiers need something to hunt)

3. Pig (my peasants need something to herd)

4. Oxen (my carts need something to pull them)

5. New beard (preferably one that would fit with the other hair pieces)

Some runner's up:

6. Lute/guitar

7. Drum

8. Cheese wheel

9. Grapes

10. New hair styles

  1. pitchfork - re-introduce existing element
  2. scythe
  3. bucket w/ moving handle
  4. "roman" helmet
  5. wheelbarrow
Basically why can't we have these from LEGO:

Basically I agree with the above...although I cannot pair it down to just five.

-A saw (crosscut, or simelar) would be great!
-Other carpentry/mason tools
-Domestic/herd Animals (deer, oxen, pigs, cows, sheep, etc)
-Wild animasl (bear {brown/black}, maybe a FOX!)
-Roman style helmets
-Guitar, or simelar insument
-More hair and beard styles (NOT huge ie exo-force or harry potter, but 'normal' looking)
-Some sort of different tree-trunk element(s) The palm tree ones work, but look like palm trees still...

Well, that's just a start, but they are some basic ideas that could
easily be implemented in some sort of a civilian castle line!

I grew up with Playmobil as well, and trust me, if I had the money i'd collect it as well! As such, i'm just going to throw out some random ideas certainly some more possible than others.

-Prefab farm animals. When I was growing up I was always angry at the lack of these, and more often than not my farm was just a glorified stable. So cows, sheep, ducks perhaps?

-A handsaw to go with all the other joinery and wood tools.

-Like the animals, some mythological beasties. The Ogre in the HP sets was a start, but i'd love bigger elements like these to be fully posable in the same ways a minifig is.

-Kitchenware. The goblets and mugs are great, so how about having the rest of the equipment needed for a dinner. There's Belville bowls and plates, but something more minifig size would be fantastic- thanks to my sister, I also grew up playing with Sylvanian families.

-Finally, a minifig scale watering can and wheelbarrow, as well as the return of the fork.

Okay, so none of these choices are going to influence or alter building too much or even shake up Lego as a whole, but I do know that when creating scenes and dioramas a lot of these pieces would be useful.

I definitely like the idea of farm animals, as well as animals such as deer and foxes. It would be cool to have pitchforks as well, to be coupled with torches when your LEGO peasants have had enough of the king.

I'm put off by the farm animal idea. It's just a scary thought. I don't really think it would be lego anymore, ya know? Where does the creative part go if they make these animals for us? How would they look? Like the preschool or fisher price animals? I would, personally, rather not.

My 2 cents.

Well, they'd probably be similar to the horse, don't you think?

Perhaps, but lego may decide, for the kids, to make them short and fat.

Allthough new accessories are always nice, I'm more than content with what we already have. If anything, I would like to see a number of existing elements in new colours. I think the over-emphasis on highly specialized bricks played a large part in the deterioration of LEGO quality in the mid-90s.

What makes the Creator line so appealing is that it focuses largely on basic bricks, with a smattering of more specialized elements to "gingerbread" the MOC. To me, this is LEGO at its best. Accordingly, I would prefer LEGO spend more time developing fantastic models with a solid mix of basic and specialized bricks rather than creating a few new bricks to stuff in the most expensive sets in the hopes that kids will lust after the special barding, crown or cape.

My wish-list would include:

1. New hairpieces – more medieval styles would be great.

2. More animals like a pig, deer, cow, duck, chickens etc.. (as mentioned earlier)

3. I would love a brick with a nice arrow slot in it.

4. Longer Chain

5. A warhammer

6. More peasant torso designs

I am sure I can think of more, but this is good enough wish-list.

Playmobil sets are often referenced when we talk about accessories or even future sets that should be used, and I have to agree that this would be a great way to go. Playmobil really does a wonderful job providing a castle world... not just a castle army/castle.
Knight Templar
n. pl. Knights Templars or Knights Templar
1.A member of an order of knights founded about 1118 to protect pilgrims in the Holy Land during the Second Crusade.

Couldn´t agree more...

I for one would like to see more of those dogs/wolves though...

This is a valid point. However, there is not really an option if you want to build something small like a hen or a rabbit. If you tried to make it yourself out of bricks, it would end up being bigger than a fig!
