Suggestion: Can everyone from here on out just copy and paste to the list, adding their recoveries as they go?
I think that is prone to problems. Multiple people editing a list means that some entries WILL get dropped. Someone will inevitably work on an old list and post that. It is harder to coordinate the list between CC, CS, and FBTB since you will have spend lots of time matching entries. Also, that creates a lot of noise in the topic from ALL the posts repeating ALL the text every time.

I would agree with the editing, except it's a boatload of work for whoever's editing the list. Given that that's been me (and, I too have accedentally dropped a couple names while editing), it's less work for me and whoever elso to just add in their names.

I think if we're careful, we can avoid drops. So unless an admin or someone willing to step in says otherwise, editing is the way we'll go. (at least here on CC)

Every few days, I take every lists we have and throw them all together in Word. Then I alphebetize them and delete extras and post them to each forum.

Does anyone know a way to crawl the entire Brickshelf site to archive it all?
It's not all arranged as a nice hierarchy of links, so regular spiders can't do it (at least as far as I know, the only way to actually get to a gallery is by searching for it, except those with links through the "recent images", etc).

I'm sure it would be a huge bandwidth hog, but making sure everything is gotten in one go. Of course, how many GB of images are there, 600GB+?

My New Theory:
He's locked the site down such that you can only back up your own images... I can't see my site if I search for myself but, if I login as me I can see it all.. I can not use BS Backup unless I know the folder numbers.

Translation: you can't back up other people's stuff.

I can only hope that this is just a temporary error and once they notice a reboot of the server will help. I /think/ it goes down once everyday so if it still suffers the same fate by tomorrow, our work collecting is done.

but then again this is just a theory.

Looking forwards a little more... I would like to propose that we collect all our spoils on DVD and ship them to each other?

One idea.. ship your stuff to one person who collects it and rips it all to DVD... then ship the DVD(s) back to all contributors.

I'm just rambling

I would looooooooooove a copy of izzo's Brickshelf folder, and possibly Nabii's (Mark Stafford?) they are some of my favorite builders. The BSbackup wasn't working well for me, otherwise I would have grabbed them. :)

Notice: Brickshelf will not be shutting down!
We will be offering "featured" accounts for $5/month shortly.
We have received hundreds of supportive emails in the past few days including many who said they would like to contribute financially but did not know how. This has had us rethink the practicality of charging for enhanced features. We plan to do this without reducing current functionality for free users. Thank you for your enormous show of support. IMPORTANT: do NOT try to download the entire site, it causes major problems, slows things down for normal users and you will be permanently blocked. We will make older folders public again after we see the crawlers go away.

Excellent, if it isn't going away, there is no need for "bad behavior" such as crawlers. Of course, 1 crawler downloading everything is better than 100 users all grabbing different things all at once.

Then again, getting FTP style permission from an admin would be better still, as then everyone knows exactly what's going on, instead of just trying to "grab" everything in a panic :)

Ahh, very nice. I am relieved. It looks like Steve was right all along about waiting to see how it all panned out.

Given that Brickshelf is not shutting down now, I'm going to set these threads free.
