Storage

Postby Robin Hood » Mon May 24, 2004 12:22 pm

I am wondering how other people store their lego. I know this is a kinda duplicate of another, but I am going to ask the question strait out.

I store my lego in labled pails and jars. I have about thirty odd contaiers. I don't do individuel pieces, I don't have that much lego. I do the more basic pieces by colour, and the more rare ones by shape. As I have saids before, this isn't my ideal set up, but it will have to work for the moment. Personally I don't like plastic bags. To hard to open and grab a piece quickly. Let me know how you guys do it.
I build, therefore I am.

Well, tomarrow, I am getting the last of the drawers that I need, and then I'll get to the other half that needs sorting. I divide them like this:

Bricks, by color
Plates, by color
Slopes, by color
Small specialty pieces, by color
Large specialty pieces, in no particular order
Large windows and doors
Small windows and doors
Minifig, weapon
Minifig, utensil
Minifigs
Minifig, bodywear
Windshields
Wheels
Castle Walls
plants
Animals

And I think that's about all :D

Right now, most of my Legos look like this: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=679036

I sort the rarer pieces by function, and the basic bricks by colour. The larger piles get icecream pails, some get peanut-butter containers, the rest get Bionicle mask set boxs. A few really privelleged, really large piles get genuine Lego bins.

In the past, I've sorted my legos by color but I don't have enough containers to hold my ever growing collection. I keep several sets on display and the rest are distributed into several boxes. Right now, however, I have all my Lego Castle pieces separated from the rest.

Here is my sorting system as it was a year or two ago:

It's expanded since then, but follows the same pattern.
