Buffalo hunt

Post by Bruce N H »

Hi all,

Following up my recent interest in animal creations, I've come up with a buffalo design:

I dont find it blocky at all, with the slopes, and rounded legs it looks like it would fit in well with the LEGO horse.

Great job Bruce! I like the SNOT work for the head. The bison is something I've never seen anyone else do. The scale is right as well. Wild West is a dead theme it seems, too bad. I got lots of the sets, but missed Legorado. Got anymore animals of this kind?

Blue Knight, if you check out the How-to Section, you should find a whole article by Bruce about making animals like this. Personally, though, I think the bison is the best. :D

Hey Blue Knight,

Formendacil already pointed you to the "how to" article I compiled, and there should be an updated version soon. I should point out that only a couple of those animals are my own design. In looking through all of those other animal designs, especially the cow designs, I started thinking about buffalo. Mine is essentially an updated version of an official LEGO design:
http://guide.lugnet.com/set/2134

I was a huge fan of the Western theme as well. I've got most of the sets. I really wish that theme had continued one more year to include more civilian sets. My suggested sets:
--Settlers' wagon - covered wagon (similar to http://guide.lugnet.com/set/6716 ), horse, ma, pa, 2 kids, barrel, boxes, --new molded cow element (similar to the horse, but with a different head, with the option to attach the "horn" piece)
--Homestead farm - perhaps this could be 2 sets - think Little House on the Prairie - house, barn, cow, brick-built chickens, field, same family
--Stagecoach Robbery - stagecoach, driver, passenger, 2 robbers (I've got a stagecoach design here: http://www.ozbricks.com/bricktales/misc ... 592ww.html )
--Cattle drive - cowboy, horse, 2 cows (in different colors), perhaps with a rustler to give this "action"
--Train station - old time western train station, with the clerk figure, some other figs.
--Western train - definitely include a cattle car with a couple of cows
--Saloon - okay, they'd never make this, but it would be the next major building to include in a town setting along with the general store, bank, sheriff's lock-up, and the above train station
--Schoolhouse/church - again, a building they wouldn't do, but also key - think Little House on the Prairie again.
Of course they would also need to include more American Indian sets. One could be Buffalo Hunt, with a brick-built buffalo along the lines I did mine. A pueblo building would also be a cool set (I did something along these lines here: http://www.ozbricks.com/bricktales/west/cliff.html Jon Furman has some better design ideas here: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=16830 )

Of course, looking at Jon's Zorro setting above raises still more possibilities, as they could have gone into the Spanish-style settlements, missions, etc.
