Hi -

I am a Lego castle fan. I am posting about certain sets made by Mega Bloks. Ok, calm down! Hear me out, please.. :woo:

Mega Bloks produce a series of sets called 'probuilder' which are large sets of usually military vehicles - boats, planes, helicopters etc.

These sets are excellent for getting huge quantities of basic Lego-type brick pices, in tones of grey, at very good prices.

Are they the best kept secret in lego/lego-type castle MOCs?! I really think this is worth investigating and consideration.

To give idea of what is available, check out these links:

And the following link - from the official Mega Bloks wesbite - provides pdf instructions which include piece inventories, which is very helpful for targetting ones purchases.

Most lego-clone series of what Mega Bloks makes may be crappy, but their line of military boats in their 'probuilder' line is an entirely different matter in my view. You can find excellent prices for new and used on ebay and amazon etc.

A shame some are so dogmatic and blinkered. I thought this might provoke a more grown up debate. The only MegaBlocks pieces I would intend to use for Lego/Lego-like castle MOCs would be the simple pieces and bricks that are effectively the sam as Lego pieces. Why is it important what trademark name the pieces they have on them? Conceptually we are trying to achieve the same thing. Thus, shouldn't this forum be treating 'Lego' in the generic sense, rather than simply the brand name Lego?

5. Do not post Off-Topic threads. Off-Topic threads are threads that do not directly relate to the LEGO Company, its' products (LEGO Bricks), LEGO Fan creations, LEGO Fan customizations, the LEGO Fan community at large, and the topics relating to the architecture, lifestyle, and sequence of events of medieval history and medieval style fiction. Topics in question will be judged on or off topic by Administration and/or Moderators, and if necessary, those topics will be locked. Users who frequently post Off-Topic threads with disregard to Administration and/or Moderator warnings will receive disciplinary action.
That's from the TOS. Feel free to take any Megabloks sets and try to build them out of Lego pieces. I've seen others do it and do it well. There is no point in trying to debate. There is nothing generic about Lego and besides.....debating is over-rated. :sly:

While I know there some great builders that use megabloks in their own creations, and I can totally accept having a topic about incorporating that building style with your own...I just can't go along with this one. As it's been pointed out, this is a LEGO forum, for LEGO fans, most of which just don't care for this product line--as evidenced by the replies thus far.

That said, I'm going to go ahead and lock this.
