Lego Storage

Post by Uthered »

Hey Guys, I am pretty new here, been a lurker for many years but I am finally coming out because I have a question that I hope you all can help me with. My question is how do you store your legos? Might be kind of a dumb question but I am curious because I have noticed that some of my legos have yellowed quite a bit lately. I have stored them in plastic tubs and also a old lego box from the 80s.. one of the old yellow cardboard ones.. do you think that might add to the yellowing of the pieces? I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

The yellowing of the pieces is, as far as I know, due to ultraviolet light breaking down flame retardant chemicals which then oxidize. So as far as prevention, less sunlight is good. Soaking the pieces in hydrogen peroxide can decrease the yellowing. Somewhere I saw some people that were using peroxide and oxyclean to remove yellowing from old computer cases. That site had more information on what was going on chemically.
