JK-259 Jackknife
4 Medium T-47 Lasers
8 Scrambler Missiles
Triark Sensor Suite
12 Maneuvering thrusters
The JK-259 Jackknife is a one-man defensive fighter, designed to escort larger ships through open space. It's super-dense armored hull will deflect almost any figher-based weapon, and it's 12 maneuvering thrusters give it a high degree of agility.
In battle, the Jackknife uses our proprietary Triark sensor technology to fly with it's armor closed. The electromagnetic and thermal sensor data is fed directly into the pilot's visor, projecting enemy ship detail as a real-time, moving, heads-up display.
Our engineers have been able to decrease the Jackknife's opening and weapon start up sequence to only one second, giving the pilot almost instant access to his offensive weapons. If a threat arises, the Jackknife can snap shut in under a second, protecting the pilot inside. Missile lock can be obtained in the closed armor position, but safteys will prevent premature launch. Regular maintenance is highly recommended.
While on guard, the Jackknife can magnetize its' hull, allowing it to attach itself to the ship it is defending to save fuel. Because of size onstraints and its' heavy mass, fuel is limited to about one hour's worth. Heavy maneuvering can decrease this to only one half-hour. The Jackknife should be refueled after every battle.
The Jackknife can be outfitted to be a ramming tug for offensive or industrial purposes.
The Jackknife has a one year/two hundred thousand mile limited warranty, and comes with everything seen here. Order now and recieve a free instructional video.
Thank you for your interest in Triark Industries. Purchase orders can be made through our website.

This is my first space ship. I built it mainly because of the space-themed TEXLUG meeting in October, but I've had the idea for this ship for a while. Inspiration comes from a pair of switch-blade pocket pliers that I have, I'd post a picture but honestly I have no clue where my pliers have walked off to.
Anyway, PLMKWYT! Though since this IS my first spaceship, be gentle, hmm?

Well, first of all, for a first desing, this is great.
i really like the turrets, but otherwise, the entire ship seems unwieldy and unnecessary. Why build a huge big honking spaceship that folds out to have two teeny missile launchers, turrets and one teeny cockpit? Good job though. Really.

Welcome to the wonderful world of space. That is an amazing ship; even moreso for it being your first one. I love it, it's a brilliant idea well executed. The only things I would suggest is to greebly the exterior a bit, or at a minimum, tile it over. Perhaps use a combination of round 1x1s, 1x2 grill tiles, and other tiles. It's awesome as it is, though. What hinges did you use?

Thanks everyone for the comments. My original idea was to tile the entire thing, but the ship is already weighted down pretty heavily, and I dont think I own enough tiles to cover the whole thing. I also didn't greeble the outside because it's supposed to be this thick armored shell, but I suppose I could add a few things.
I've taken a picture of the inside of the ship to answer any design questions:

Nice way you did that. I really would liek the ship better wiht some exterior designs... But it is still cool.SavaTheAggie wrote:Thanks everyone for the comments. Very cool Anthony,
Like yourself, I am not a space builder, so I am always impressed when a non-spacer comes up with a nifty new idea. I really like the armored shell and the way the ship opens. Add greeblies if you must, but I like it the way it is.

After a long absence, I have returned. I can't wait to start building again.
