Minecraft announced

Hey all,

This happened while we were down for a couple of days, so most have probably seen it, but LEGO announced the Minecraft set at LEGO World.

Image

I'm not a Minecraft guy, so as a set I'm not all that interested (though it looks like all those Minecraft images I've seen online, so I'd call it a success). As a parts pack it's pretty great - all basic bricks/plates and especially 1x1 tiles in good standard colors. I'll wait to see a piece count to know if this is cost effective as a brick-pack.

Also, I don't think we've ever seen printing on the edge of a plate before, which is interesting. I could imagine the little 1x1x2 figure as the basis for a new standard scale of building. It's at just about the same scale as the microfigs included in the various board games.

I have to say too, I absolutely don't understand this minecraft thing into Lego sets. But yea Bruce you goto a point if these sets aren't too expensive they can be great ways to get those kinds of bricks.

I am not a minecraft guy either, but I think lego definitely went the right direction with this set. It looks like a good part pack. It also seems like a set that Minecraft fans who aren't really into lego might purchase.

I think this set is it. I didn't get the impression they would be making more or it into a theme. But currently $35 seems quite pricey even for a nice selection of tiles and small plates.

Agreed. Like the other cuusoo projects the whole idea is to sell to a market that wouldn't normally buy lego. I guess in the hope that they will then buy other sets in the regular themes.

I have already seen comments on youtube from minecraft fans (in response to the announcement video) saying things like "wow, legos are cool again! [sic]". As offensive as I may find that statement :tasty: if people start resdiscovering and buying lego sets, then the cuusoo project has been effective.

I have enjoyed quite a lot of minecraft myself, and I think that for folks who are really into minecraft and follow it, they may likely get this.

And when they put it together and have a lot of fun with LEGO again, who knows, I bet we'll get some folks coming out of their dark age and saying what other sets are available, and taking a look at the LEGO aisle next time they go to Target, etc.

At $35.00 USD / 480p it comes up at 7 cents a piece
Lego Pick-a-Brick advertizes the same 1x1 flat piece at 10 cents a piece
