Trees + Wall + Floor

A couple of weeks ago I finished a Friends swimming pool MOC, and I got lots of questions about how I did the trees and the wall and the floor. Bruce asked for a more complete tutorial on the trees, which I did, and thought I could post here too.

First, here is the whole MOC:

Here's the first page of the tree tutorial:

If you leave the leaves woven for a while, the branches do come out a little bent, but they seem to bend back into the proper shape fairly easily.

Here's how to do the wall:

The pool deck floor is done by squishing lots of round 1x1 bricks (each covered with 2 round 1x1 plates) together into a hexagonal grid. (It's the same idea used for cheese slope mosaics: squish the pieces together, fill in the gaps, and if you get the tension right, it will be fairly solid). You can see other examples of how this is done in this set. Truth be told, getting this done in this case was a nightmare. It took forever, had to be redone lots of times, and caused me all sorts of headaches. I can't say that I recommend it.

Happy building! 8)

Ooh, I have a hexagon that I'm having trouble covering with floor. This might be the solution. (1984 round pieces to cover the whole floor, I need to be more clever than that)

Ha ha ha, yes.... I can think of a few easier ways to make a hexagonal shape. These circle bits are not for the faint of heart! ;-) If you need any help, let me know, and I could try to help. ;-)

By the time I got home I had a different idea. The hexagon is no more. Now it's a nonadecagon. Or about two thirds of one.

Oooh, spiffy! That looks great. I can't wait to see how it all turns out when it's done. ;-)

Nice work on the trees, and thanks for sharing!

I had come up with a very similar wall technique while experimenting a few years ago, and it's nice to see somebody finally implement it.
