Lego parts list...complete?

Post by Dan_BL »

I have a question for you guys:

When I use LDraw, how come every time I open a file, there are a pile of files
that just aren't found. I get small pop up message errores saying: 'file s\6582b
.dat not found! Continue loading?"

I get somewhere between 5 and 25 of these messages all in a row when I want to open a file.
Now I know this is because I am missing parts in my parts library but- I download the complete
parts zip every time this message series comes up and it doesn't seem to
desist. Anyone have a good, reliable, faithful, well-serving site that has ALL the parts up to date?

This is really crazy because some of the parts that I'm missing have been on the market for
well over 12 years!

Please help. This was getting really out of hand when MLCAD couldn't find a 1x4 brick.
Other parts like a 1x4x3 window frame with the 4 small tabs on the sides for attaching the window panes
can't be found either!

Not all of the piece are there. Some parts are really hard to do. The peasant hat for example.

October 2003 I ask to someone at ldraw.org about some really useful but missing pieces for castle.

4496 Minifig Pitchfork
x167 Minifig Helmet Knight with Fixed Face Grill
x79 Minifig Hat Farmer's
x106 Minifig Hat Forestmen's
X107 Minifig Hat High Cone Shaped

Since then the Forestmen Hat was done, but not other one. 4496, x167 and x107 are in the market since 20 years now !!! but they are not created.

It's mostly because they are curve based pieces and it's seem to be hard do.

I suggest you to ask the question to them too. It may convince someone at ldraw to make them. The more they will have comment, the more they will be likely to make them. Write at this address:
parts@ldraw.org

That's what I wrote:
Hi everybody,

I create all my MOC with ldraw. I create only Castle sets. I don't know if
I'm the only one here to create with this fantastic tool.

I have a complaint to make. Some essentials pieces from castle line are
truely lacking...

4496 Minifig Pitchfork
x167 Minifig Helmet Knight with Fixed Face Grill
x79 Minifig Hat Farmer's
x106 Minifig Hat Forestmen's
X107 Minifig Hat High Cone Shaped

Is there someone able to make these piece for ldraw ? I don't know how to
make piece.
That's what Chris Dee replied:
Hi David

Thanks you for your question. Yes these parts have been missing from the
LDraw inventory for some while - mainly because curved parts are the most
difficult to make.

There is some good news for you.

The forestman's cap (peeron ref x106) has been issued in mock-up form
(without the feather hole) - see
http://news.lugnet.com/cad/dat/parts/?n=1926. And I have also now added the
feather hole, and am putting the final touches to this part. Expect to see
an announcement on lugnet.cad sometime in the next few weeks.

I have also started work on the Minifig Helmet Knight with Fixed Face Grille
(peeron ref x167).

Of the others on your list, I think the Farmer's cap will be the hardest.

Chris Dee
Hope it will help you.
It remind me to ask him if the Minifig Helmet faced grill (x167) is done...

I had a similar problem recently. Here are a few things to check:

-Check your LDraw base path in MLCad. It's possible that you have multiple installs on your computer--you may have installed a parts update in a different location than your original installation (Go to Settings->General->Change... and you can see and change the LDraw base path there. You may want to search your hard drive for LDraw first to see if it's in multiple places.)
-Things in the s\ subdirectory are subfiles, not actual parts. Several parts have been recently updated to be BFC-compliant (a graphics optimization thing) and use subfiles that are missing--3040 (2 x 1 slope) was the one I had trouble with recently. You can download any LDraw official part like:

http://www.ldraw.org/library/official/p ... tname).dat

If it's asking for s\6582b.dat, go to:

http://www.ldraw.org/library/official/parts/s/6582b.dat

and save the file in your parts\s directory.

Be careful that you put parts in (LDraw base path)\parts, subparts in (LDraw base path)\parts\s, and primitives in (LDraw base path)\p (but if you're missing primitives you got problems).

Try downloading the ones that it prompts you for, and that should make the missing ones go away.

Hope this helps!
