LEGOLAND Billund

So, I went to *the* Legoland this summer - previous time was back in the 1980s. :) Couldn't find an existing thread for this, so I started one. I must say it is a fun, fun place still - expanded quite a bit, but the core areas have stayed true to the original experience. There were some fabulous castles in the Miniland, I'm sure giving many ideas to possible future MOCs. There was also the Knight's Kingdom themed area, where we ate at a castle restaurant, guarded by man-sized LEGO Castle minifigures.

There is also a LEGO themed hotel on the premises, where the rooms actually have boxes of LEGO for you to build with - and of course all the public areas in the hotel are full of LEGO playrooms and the like. Obviously the park hosts the largest LEGO store (or so they say) in the world, a lot of rarer castle stuff in there too - Medieval Market Village, the last Kingdoms exclusives and so on. For the kids some unique LEGO castley wearables too. Since Billund is an airport town, it isn't hard to get there either (although we drove, the newish Danish/Swedish bridges make it a hoot to come from Scandinavia).

I posted some pics here: http://questforbricks.wordpress.com/201 ... d-billund/ and here: http://questforbricks.wordpress.com/201 ... /miniland/ I'll try to post some on the hotel and the store later on.

Have many of you been to the Denmark Legoland?

Lucky devil. I've wanted to go to LEGOLand Billund since I was about eight and National Geographic World magazine ran a feature on it. I asked my mom "Where's Denmark?" and she showed me on the globe and I went "Hmmm...this might be difficult."

Much later, after I had grown up, they built a LEGOLand in California, which I got to visit a couple years ago. It was awesome. But I still want to see the original. (Among other things, it would mean I was visiting Europe.)

One of my life goals (I would say bucket list, but that would make me sound like an old soul trapped in a teenager's body  ) is to visit Billund and go to LEGOland there.

Having never left the country, if it was my first time going international I'm sure that would only make it even more special.

Agreed. A friend of mine went there late last year and loved it. I've been fortunate to be able to visit Europe on several occasions and the closest I have been is Hamburg (loverly city - especially the Christmas Markets). I have picked a line of where I'd like to visit if we get back over there and the line starts or finishes at Billund The wife is secretly keen too :D

Thanks for sharing. Always keen to see pics, especially castle related stuff, from the place.

My wife and I happened to find ourselves in Florida last week and went to LEGOland Florida. We took 1,550 photos--WOW! Still trying to pare those down into something manageable. I loved the experience and would certainly love to go to the Denmark LEGOland. Loved your photos!

Just a quick heads up, I had another chance to visit LEGO's home town of Billund (and the amusement park) this summer. Some pictures of Billund through here:

I will be updating more on the matter over the coming days and weeks.

I have been going through my photos of this summer's visit to LEGOLAND Billund, I thought they might interest some here. One really cool attraction at LEGOLAND Billund is a very classic one, a panoramic tower/elevator that gives you a 360-degree view of the park and its surroundings. This is a very nice way of get a quick feel for the hometown of LEGO as you can not only see LEGOLAND, but also the LEGO factory and the Billund airport LEGO originally built for itself. Here's my gallery: http://questforbricks.wordpress.com/201 ... p-billund/. Another cool thing is the LEGO museum in Billund, I have posted some early pictures of that here: http://questforbricks.wordpress.com/201 ... 1891-1969/. Even more pictures can be found via here: http://questforbricks.wordpress.com/cat ... go-places/.

It has been fun reliving my visits to LEGOLAND Billund on the Internet. It really is a magical place. I know there is a current discussion on how the new handlers are evolving the park(s) and if the direction is good, but I must say so far I personally - and my family too - have enjoyed LEGOLAND Billund as much as I did back in the 1980s. If you get the chance to visit, I recommend it highly. No matter the new owners, there is a lot of legacy in this park, knowing that attractions and things there go back to the 1960s and 1970s that really makes a difference. It is, after all, the one and only original LEGOLAND - and always will be.

Anyone wanting to check out my photos of LEGOLAND Billund Miniland from summer 2013, they are now here: http://questforbricks.wordpress.com/201 ... land-2013/ Also the rest of my photos and updates from this summer are here: http://questforbricks.wordpress.com/201 ... lund-2013/
