new catalog

Post by Bruce N H »

Hi all,

Just saw this on fbtb. The new fall catalog is available on-line:

The cover looks awesome. Looking through, I don't see anything new except the Halloween costumes, a remote control car, and maybe the Bionicle stuff (I'm not sure what's new and what's old in that line).

There's basically nothing new!

I'm disappointed. :(

I think that the "nothing new" phenomenon is actially a positive result of a lot of advances in AFOLdom. When I was a kid, the catalogs (which didn't come out as often, IIRC) were the only source on upcoming sets. So I'd wait for them and go through every detail. Now, by the time a catalog finally comes out, I've seen pictures of new sets from Toy Fair (both NYC and German), scans of inserts found in sets from all around the world, announcements at conventions like Brickfest etc, announcements released to various websites, leaked (shh) information that employees of different distributors put up on the web, photos of sets accidentally put on the shelves early at some random store in Britain, etc etc etc. So when I said "nothing new", I really meant nothing that hasn't already been seen somewhere on the web.

Thanks for the announcement. Something really weird that I noticed: in the HP set that has the snake (forget what it's called), the figs are yellow!

The HP set with the Snake is the Chamber of Secrets - http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?p=4730. It was released a couple of years ago, the same time as HP2 so it was still in the era of yellow figures.

That's a Legend in Europe?

Sweet! I can't wait until its available here. My brother once considered it to be on his top ten list, and still does. Now, it didn't quite get there for me, but it is a BEAUTIFUL set. I really hope it becomes available in Canada. I'll almost definitely buy it, regardless of the fact that I am almost entirely a Castle fan these days.

DM is referring to the original Shop at Home online price. It was first listed at $45 discounted to $40. That didnt make sense. Later it was discounted to $35 from $40. Finally now it matches the catalog as discounted to $30 from $40.

The discounted price of $30 is good through October 11th, 2004.

I got my new catalog today (Fall 04')... Bum deal! Like my kids want to be a Bionicle or minifig vampire for Haloween. The pumpkin, not a bad price for orange bricks. New Jack Stone for 4+, power boat that really works looks cool. There is even some new Spider-Man stuff for the 4+ kids.
The High Speed Train Loco makes it's 1st catalog visit in the US, passenger car sold seperatly unless you get the "deluxe" w/track. Only thing I might order is the Clikits advent calendar for my little girl.
In all... I'm not impressed, TLC can do better.
On a side note I happened to notice some "Special Edition" Star Wars sets at my local Wally-World, same sets w/fancy boxes and cost more.

Fred

(Lets hope for a better winter catalog!)
