Rampant speculation on -?-

Post by Bruce N H »

Alright, I'll help the buzz grow a bit. This image has appeared in the photostreams of several prominent builders:

Image

Some big announcement is implied for this evening. The barely-fuzzed-out names of the builders indicate that whatever this group project is, it will include people we all know, including lots of CC'ers. I've already guessed that this would be the names of those involved in the LEGO Adventure Book Volume 2, but Katie has said no. Anyone else want to guess?

Some random ideas:
Big group build
A big tournament of master builders (though that should probably have 16 names rather than 14)
Steering committee for a new fan convention (though I see names from both the US and Europe)
Admins for some new forum or blog
Contributors to some other book (not the LAB volume 2, but we've seen other books involving AFOLs lately like the DK Ideas book last year)
Some new twist on the LEGO Ambassadors program
A letter signed by all of these stating "We, the undersigned, are donating all of our LEGO to Bruce, since he's such a great guy."

Very interesting.... I know for sure it isn't the last one. :P I'd say the 5th idea from the top is the most likely but ya never know...

Based on the graphics, I would say that these are the contestants of a new reality show: Who is Next? through which the next iteration of the Doctor will be decided by on-line voting.

Just sayin'......

Perhaps a 50's style race for pinks, where the loser has to give up their creation to the winner? :D Tournament style?

Or...

They will be announcing their switch from Lego and Castle, to Megablok focusing on Halo inspired builds!

Here's my thoughts:
- I already weaseled ( :halo: ) out of Katie that it's not a tournament/competition. :( (click here).
- Fourteen builders all working on one building project would seem like a disaster waiting to happen (cost, ideas, making a standard [potentially], meeting together to assemble it, etc.), if you ask me, big group build is out of the question.
- New convention is unlikely as the few USA builders I recognize are pretty far apart, and Bruce mentioned that there are EU builders as well.
- Admins for a new blog is possible, but a lot of the names already run blogs (Nannan is on the B-B for example).
- Forum is a possibility, but I feel like there's no reason for them starting it (unless it's for one theme, which is unlikely, given the variety of builders) as a lot of them already have a lot of ties to many different forums.
- The book is also possible, but since we ruled out a second idea book, fourteen authors on one new book would be insane.
- A new twist on the Ambassador's program would really be something interesting, so I'd hope for this more than anything.
- I like footsteps's idea on a game show of sorts. That would be interesting. :)
Despite the above, the only logical explanation to why this is happening is the letter to Bruce.

All I know is...there's something fishy afoot... :?

It's umm.. Very interesting to say the least.

The builds are stellar and fantastic, as these are some of the top builders on the internet, but the idea behind it is very lacking IMO. I mean C'mon, polar bear people? In my honest opinion, the builds are solid, but the idea/story is pretty goofy. :?

I applaud them for putting forth this group effort. That is fantasic and these are all builders who have inspired me, but I agree with you. Not my deal. These builds are all fantastic though. The One by DNL doesn't even look like lego in the well edited picture, it looks like a WoW screenshot and most everything Katie does is magic.

I hope they grow this and it inspired others to do coordinated builds like projects like this.

I think the whole point was to do something crazy and fun. What suits that better than medieval polar bears!?! :D
