Okay, so I just opened a World City set - A truck and trailer set. Both figs already had long side up.

The long way looks correct from an artistic point of view - grab something, hold your arm out a bit, and you'll see what I mean.

But I don't always turn it that. For instance, all my soldiers from the pirate line have their hands reversed so that their muskets rest against their shoulders in a soldierly fashion. It depends on the necessity of the pose. But I only reverse the hand if the overall pose is improved, otherwise I prefer the more natural-looking "long" on top.

Mongols hold things the wrong way? That isn't registering at all...... unless by holding the bows incorrectly enabled them to conquer about 2/3 of the Eurasian continent. :shock:

Anyhow, all my minifig hands have the longside up, except for guys like Peltasts (or other kinds javelin throwers).
