to part, or not to part... that is the question

Ok so as my title states, to part or not to part.
I have most all the original star wars mini models; the falcon, at-at walker, imperial shuttle etc... so i have 9+ plus kits in all. Should i part them out for my castle purposes, or trade them for another kit that would be of more use to me....

What do you guys think? They are currently sitting in a box complete collecting dust.

Curt

If they are never being used then either sell them on e-bay for money to buy castle sets (star wars can fetch a good price) or part them out in my opinion. Letting something sit around and take us space seems like a waste. :D

Star Wars sets can contain a decent amount of grey/bley plates...which are very castle. I'd part them into your collection if you don't care about them.

If you want to sell them, then sell them. But it might be worth only selling the figs from it and still keeping the parts. SW figs can be worth a lot, especially on ebay.

I think you should part them out for Castle use. Like Bluesecrets mentioned, a lot of SW sets have a lot of grey/bley (depending on how old or new the set is of course) which is very very useful.

In addition to that, some minifigures can be easily modified to look like medieval peasants (this is the case with most if not all of the Jedi torsos). :)

This is a very good point (and how I use my SW figs). I actually bought a lot of SW sets a few years back for peasants and mages (the emperor is a good black mage).

These guys are fetching a pretty penny on Bricklink. Didn't check Ebay.

You could part them out, but in all honesty, I don't see a lot of Castle use with them. If you are wanting castle pieces, why not sell them, and get a lot more pieces?

I mean, that Millennium Falcon is like $17 on Bricklink.

I think you can get a lot of pieces for that.

Yea i would like to sell them as a set. I know how much their selling for but i dont have a lot of time to set up a brick link store right now, let alone internet at the house. I had one guy local intrested but his significant other stamped out that flame.

I am open for trades as long as there reasonable, i know i wont get what their worth but i would like to get something comperable.

Though dont let it slip my wife an i have one of the xwing sets with yodas hut set # 4502, in the house as well.

So that being said is anyone here also intrested in starwars?

Do you have the instructions and the packaging insert? I think all of these were sold in sealed plastic, so since you said they are assembled I know you had to destroy the packaging. If you look at the price guide on Bricklink, the Falcon sold for, on average, $20 used, $38 new (I'm guessing that means in the sealed container). So I might try to sell them if I were you. I agree with Sschmidt above that these particular sets are not great for castle parts - mostly gray wedge plates IIRC. Ironically, the one that I appreciated as a castle guy was the (IMO) by far worst model - the MTT is an old brown slope parts pack. If you did sell the whole group together on e-bay you might do better. There are some crazy 'buy it now' prices, but I doubt those will get takers, but you still might get some good bids from SW collectors.
BTW, if you're looking to trade these for castle sets, you might consider going on FBTB or Eurobricks. You might find more people there who really want to fill in their SW collections, and are also more willing to part with their castle sets.
Also, you might consider either BrickTrader or BrickSwap. I've not used either of these sites, though, so others would have to weigh in on their merits. Hmm, I'll start a thread over in B/S/T on the various sites.

Lil-curt,

I'm not registered on either of those sites and don't really know anything about them except the names. I started a thread in the BST forum on different LEGO sales sites, so maybe someone who comments on that thread might have more to say on them.
