Mixels

Hey all,

At Comic-Con, LEGO teased an upcoming theme, the Mixels:

They've already put up a placeholder page, which as of now just has an image:

On that page you can see that these are trademarked to LEGO, so this must be an original theme rather than a license. There will be a cartoon on the Cartoon Network next spring. Some new pieces and pieces in new colors - IMO most significantly the new 1-stud wide ball joint most clearly seen on the guy on the left. That will be useful in building brick built beasts, monsters, mecha, etc.

I'm not at all familiar with the show (I'm assuming that's what it is), but when I was looking at these pictures last night, what immediately caught my eye was the yellow bush on the far left critter thing. Very interesting, but I imagine there won't be a lot of opportunity to get that piece elsewhere.

And of course, those who build brick-built animals will enjoy the joint piece you have mentioned.

I like all these new, licensed themes because they draw in newer crowds and get more people involved with LEGO.

Just a couple of corrections. The show does not exist yet - it will start in spring 2014. The evidence seems to indicate that this is not a license, but instead is an original LEGO theme (because the trademark to Mixels is owned by LEGO and not by the Cartoon Network or someone else).

One other point of information, this image implies that there will be seven main characters and we've seen three of them. It's also interesting that those drawn cartoon versions do not look overly 'LEGO', which seems odd if this is an original theme. When you watch the Ninjago or Chima cartoons, they're obviously animated minifigs, but these just seem like generic cartoons.

Well...the designs...are...weird, but that yellow bush is awesome. I'm assuming that from the character design and the name imply that you will be able to mix the different characters? Just from the first three, we can see we could "mix" the arms and maybe the legs if we wanted too. And do I see a 1 stud wide ball-joint connection? That could be cool. I don't much care for the cartoons (my little brother enjoys them), but hopefully this theme will bring something new to the table.

I actually like the eye pieces quite a lot.

No, FB, you are not allowed to mix them. This is LEGO...don't be silly, mixing is NOT allowed. ;)

Hey,

Looking at closely at the hi res pictures, it looks like we will be getting at least these pieces:
1x2 plate with female joint on the end
1x2 plate with male joint on the side (for sure it's 1x2 on the red guy - there may be a 2x2 plate with joint on the yellow guy)
1x2 plate with female on one end and male on the other
1x2 plate with female on both ends
For completeness I would expect to see a 1x2 plate with female joint on the side (and maybe a 2x2 version - see my note on the male joint plate above) and a 1x2 with male joints on both ends. I'm already imaging all of the great ways these could be used. It looks like if you put two of these together, you could rotate the one piece about +/-90 degrees along the long axis of the ball joint, and about +/-30 degrees along the axis perpendicular to the ball joint.

According to Bricklink, that 1x1 eye piece has appeared in three sets. When I saw pics of that exclusive duck set I assumed those were stickers, but I guess not. I'm unfamiliar with either of those basic brick sets from this year, but they look like pretty good values. Hmm, maybe they are not yet available in the US? The 2x2 round eye tile seems to be new (and that fig is screaming out to be made in lime green with short legs to be Mike Wazowski), as does the printed 2x2 ball joint.

I adore these little Mixels. Bumping a topic to bring it back up now that these are actually out there and available.

They are just pure fun to build and super cute. Plus the parts are great! You can't help but smile when you build them. Splurge...get one. You won't regret it!

The show looks like yet another brain cell damage device like most things found on Cartoon Network(Exception is the Clone Wars!!), but the sets look like they have some useful parts. I think I might end up getting Zorch from the Fire tribe, he looks the most useful to me.

I bought one, and let my wife build it. It's cute, has a lot of useful parts, and it was only $4.

Could be a good parts source for people who like building fantasy monsters.

I love the look of these, they're interesting and probably cheap, so I can get a few of them with no problems. I think it would be fun to mix the parts around, and I can see some really cool possibilities of new creatures/whatever-they-ares. ;)

I foresee myself getting one or two :D ! I'll probably wait for the orange (which are water though I don't know why :raiseone: ) ones though, as they'll have some nice black horns.
Some new pieces and pieces in new colors - IMO most significantly the new 1-stud wide ball
I got the croc legend beast (I think he's great :D ) and he also comes with these new useful pieces :D :sly: !

These look weirdly interesting, I might buy some just for kicks, and maybe trying a hand at creatures. :)

What is the show?

From the stuff that is out I may get a couple of the yellow and red one. I personally really want several of the yellow one with the bush for a fall scene. These guys are just so cute. :D

I'm looking forward to series three for the purple.

The show trailer is weird...really weird. As I said before, the sets are cool, so it doesn't matter to me!
