Yes, having guys from my Lug over to see my collection gave me the impression that at some point even an AFOL can consider some collections to be a bit of madness. My stereo box full of figs really amazes people, but I also get that "you're a bit of a nutter" look from people. Including AFOLs. :D

When I saw the subject I thought this was going to be "How many AFOLs does it take to change a lightbulb?" :)

No idea. I'd say that Bricklink is a better guide than Lugnet, as Lugnet is more US-centric. This still doesn't account for "sleepers", as Jake calls them, though.

I think we are all "a bit of a nutter", or is that "a pat of butter"?

I doubt we will ever get an estimate number, not even a rough estimate as there are so many groups of AFOL out there.
I mean, we got Bricklink, Lugnet, CC, FBTB, BZ power, lots of Japanese and Asian based groups, non-English speaking groups (mostly parts of Europe). Even if we tallied all the members from these sites we would still have only about half the actual amount.
So I guess the answer to the question "How many AFOL?" the answer is, who knows for sure? Its anyones guess.

You really can't tally the totals from each of those sites as some people like myself is a member of several of the Lego sites you mentioned.

Im a member of:
BrickLink
Classic-Castle (duh!)
FBTB
LUGnet

And Im sure there are plenty more people out there who are members of several Lego sites.

AFOLs don't change lightbulbs anymore; if it's dark they can remain in denial about the color change.

Legally perhaps, but looking around here, Adult Fan Of Lego might be a bit of a stretch.

Yes, I am a member at both FBTB and Bricklink (also Brickshelf if we count that too) but my point was that even if we took rough totals from all these sites we still wouldn't be near to the actual number.

Hey! I resemble that remark!
