It's looking like a £200/$200 + set, which seems like a big gamble for TLG. I really hope someone has done their homework on this, or that it ties in with some big Simpsons media push. Can't help feeling it's 10 (at least) years too late, though I guess we might have said that about LOTR, and that seems to have done ok (I don't know if LOTR was a tie in with gaining the rights to The Hobbit at all).

There's a whole load of tan there, but the figures are just a bit odd for me to really get onboard with this. Maybe seeing them 'in the brick' will change my mind.

You can tell it's verymuch aimed at adults, what with the only set being a $200 one, and it being based off an adult show.

Meh. I'm not bothered about this, and I don't know many kids who're gonna get a £200/£300 set. A huge gamble, if you ask me, and a long while late, too.

TBB is reporting that LEGO has officially released details on the new set, so I am assuming it's now safe to post here.

Yes it is safe to post now. And now that I have actually looked at it, I'm even more meh than I was before. I think it is well designed. But, no way I'd be buying that. It might actually place lowest on the list of things I would actually buy. But to each their own. It just isn't something I want. If I ever was to buy a Simpsons set it would be on impulse, and the price of this makes it so not an impulse..and there are no donuts in it.

Yes, definitely not an impulse set. I think if anything, the price per part cost is low enough that we might see some of the more desirable items being available for a decent price on the secondary market, which is always a good thing! :D

Turns out it's cheaper than I expected. For a 2000+ set the price seems pretty reasonable. Makes me wonder if they know it's going to be a tough sell, and have priced it as competitively as possible. It does feel like it's come about 15 years too late, though undoubtedly the set would have looked very different it it had been made 15 years ago, what with all the advancements in moulding and new pieces over the years.

The 25th anniversary of The Simpsons may have something to do with its timing, and may draw in more customers if there is more brand awareness through other Simpsons prominence in the media/advertising. One of the press releases also mentions a Simpsons TV episode that will be set in a lego world, so that should get it more attention from AFOLs at least I would have thought.

Who holds the ultimate rights/licensing to The Simpsons? Just makes me wonder if there was something else TLG wanted to get their hands on, or were approached about, and the Simpsons stuff is part of a larger deal or agreement (perhaps like the LOTR/Hobbit). Is it FOX?

Or perhaps I'm just being cynical. The truth is they've done a great job on it. With the colours and small details it's definitely not a quick rush of a set. Can't believe they've missed out Lisa's sax though (from the CMF Jazz Man). Maybe she'll appear with in in the Simpsons CMF range, I'd hazard a guess that we'll see most of the core family in different outfits/iterations (saving on head sculpts...) and then the supporting characters. I'm mostly excited by the potential new parts that CMFs usually bring.

Yahoo says the figures will be $4 each:

Let's hope its not a trend for the other collectables...

I'm going to go on a limb and say the author of that Yahoo! article is a fan, given the monorail plea.

Not a Simpsons fan at all, but the big positive for me is the licensed CMF line. We've heard a lot about Lego not having 'action figure' rights in SW & LOTR. Since they obviously acquired them for the Simpsons, my hope is that they might be able to do the same for LOTR, since there have been no LOTR action figs available for years. Even if LOTR sets are dead, I can't think of a better consolation prize than having the line go out with a final series of LOTR CMF!

I'd totally go for an LOTR CMF series. Easterling, Haradrim, Denethor, Rosie, Bilbo, all the characters that wouldn't normally get in sets. It seems like we may get one more last hurra line of LOTR, go look at my topic Rumors+ideas for Tolkien 2014, I think it's in castle sets or general lego. There are some rumors that sound legit and very awesome.

Oooh, yeah. LOtR CMF! That would be awesome!

But on the topic of The Simpsons - I've never watched it, but the sets seem okay for architectural pieces. That's pretty much all I'd buy them for...

Hey,

I've got really mixed feelings about this set. On the one hand, I love that it is all brick-built and not dependent on large single-use parts. I also really like all of the furnishings and other details (e.g. air conditioner, tiled floors, etc). OTOH, there's just no wow factor that would drive me to pay $200 for this, as opposed to some model like the Palace Cinema or another modular building set. The house is a faithful render of the real thing, so that's not the fault of the set designers but of the source material. The real problem, though, is those figs. If they had made normal figs, I'd be so excited to get these. Basically normal heads with custom hairpieces. Imagine, for instance, something like the Darth Maul headpiece for Bart's spiky hair, or the bald-guy headpiece from the old man CMF for Homer. Then we would get the Simpsons CMF line with a bunch of characters, all with great useful heads and hairpieces, who could work in to our normal fig worlds. As it is these are useless, except for making a Simpsons display. I mean, how often have I used my Woody, Buzz, and Jessie figs for anything but the original Toy Story set I got for my daughter? Answer - never.

Here is a thought to think about. Just like with the original super heroes from the 2000's, could the fans of the Simpson discover those figs and go crazy buying them, like the super hero fans did? Gees...I sold the original Joker for something like $30 just because I would never use him. Over time, will those figs become desired? My thought is probably yes dependent on just how many there are out there in the wild.

But again, I would have bought this set if it would have been just the house and a reasonable price. But I have ZERO interest in the Simpsons. Time will tell what happens with this set. I've been told that in Europe the Simpsons is still liked and watched. I don't actually know anyone who watches them myself.
