Knor I (SHIP)

I rarely build outside the Castle theme, but I've been meaning to do a good sized sci-fi build this year so when SHIPtember conteset was announced I went for it.
The contest is to design and build a SHIP (Super Huge Investment in Parts, a spaceship that is over 100 studs long) in the month of September. The minifig scale freighter I built weighs near 11 pounds, is 110 studs long, and is surprisingly sturdy. Some notable features: working overhead cranes, opening doors, a full interior, two small transport vehicles, and working landing gear.

The Knor I is a middle class freighter that carries a four man crew. It's two small transport vehicles are docked at the landing pad in front of the bridge. With dual overhead cranes and loading docks the Knor I can load or unload its cargo quickly and efficiently. Numerous solar panels provide power for the large engines.

Thanks Matthew, now it's almost completely disassembled so I can get back to Castle :lol:

Great job man! The front and side design is really neat. :)

It is a very good looking ship, but it doesn't feel very sci-fi to me. I think it is because the shape too-closely resembles what a water-going freighter would look like.

Excellent brickwork though. The shaping is really terrific and I love your containers :D

Wicked ship, I could see this flying around Earth but not deep space. Kind of like the movie, "The Fifth Element" or "Blade Runner". Nice Job!

This is outstanding, SK. I really like the industrial feel to this. I agree this feels like something that would be in use nearer the surface, particularly since the cargo is stored on top of the deck, implying that this is always under gravity.

This is really cool. While it is futuristic, there is a certain rugged quality to it, that reminds those looking on how durable and reliable this is at transporting cargo. It's not built to be flashy and flighty, it's built to be durable and get the job done.

Almost like a good pick-up truck :D

I really enjoyed this ship SK, it is one of my favorites that have been entered, and I have seen some really good ones.

@Aeridian: Thanks, both the front and sides were built around a technic frame, a little different than how I build my castles :lol:

@AK_Brickster: Thank you, and it definitely looks very much like a ocean freighter, that is what inspired this and I tried to get that feel with it. But I may have made it look too much like one :)

@Tower of Iron Will: Thanks! And that would be a good explanation for its design, I had someone else on Flickr say it reminded them of the Fifth Element :)

@Bruce N H: Thanks :D

@SSchmidt: Thank you! That was exactly the effect I was going for, and thanks for such high praise :)

Whoa, this is amazing Isaac! This show's a lot about your building skills, which just keep improving btw. :)

Thanks Justin, it was a fun challenge building something outside the Castle realm :)
