Gigantic (!!!!) statue in Germany

Post by Bruce N H »

Hi all,

Just saw this 2-story-tall MOC (!!!!) on Brickshelf:

 Warning (I guess) - It's a statue of a nude

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=911878

Jojo has a picture, as does Thekla, so I assume this is somewhere in Germany. Jojo, do you have more information on this?

Bruce

Hello!

The story is this if you are able to read Norgwegian (I am not): http://www.nnks.no/utstilling/andvig.htm

The statue was built by an artist, Kjersti Andvig, who wanted to show the coherence between biology and mathematics, art and sciences. So she built this statue that consists of 14,000 bricks which resemble the countless atoms in our body.

Somebody posted this pic to the 1000steine.de forum and there was a bet if I was able to upload this pic to BrickShelf, get the censors pass it and have it in my gallery for at least one week. As you may have noticed the yellow woman is stark-naked, something that is not appreciated by the owners of BrickShelf....

Bye
Jojo

I don't see anythign wrong with it. It's an art form, and it's nothing suggestive.

Wow, that is big! But isn't it a bit pornographic?

No, no its not. If it had a few key additions, then perhaps it would be.

But as it stands now, its art.

It's a good pass at classic greek styling (dang, I forget the name of the pose). Shows what you can do with enough "pick-a-brick" and time.

While this hardly shocks me (ain't nothing on the human body I haven't drawn and displayed while in college) you might want to put a "nude" warning on your message for the more sheltered amongst us.

Hmm, I've added a warning to my initial post. Seems a little tame, though, to require one, n'est pas? It's pretty much in keeping with all classic sculptures I've ever seen. Anyway, there ya go.

See my post above.
P.S., Europe has different customs when it comes to nudity.

I'm surprised at the piece coun't only 140,000. I had figured the billions. How sturdy is it though? Could an Earthquake topple it. Then it would be some serious PAB fun, lol!

That is pretty awesome... I don't think I even have that many bricks in my collection.

I like the symbolism that Jojo posted.

It's funny the way some folks reacted. I'm in art school right now, I spend 8 hours a week drawing/painting nude models.

That is a lot of Yellow Castles....

Or one realllyyyyy big one.

No comment on the nudity. A comment in any direction could and would be used against me. At least it isn't blatantly pornographic.
